Should they try to stretch out Thompson as a starter?

No. That guy is a copy of Blake Treinen. Needs to refine his slider a bit more, but he is a reliever at this point.

Excerpts from a transcript of BA's Kyle Glaser interacting with Dodgers fans about the LA farm system earlier this year:

Mike (Honolulu):

Are Keibert Ruiz and Josiah Gray the clear #1-#2 in the system? Where are the breakpoints in prospect groupings in the Top 10?

Kyle Glaser: Yes, although there was some support for Busch and Hoese to be in the top two as well. The consensus was Miller and Cartaya could be in the top two next year, but no one was willing to go there quite yet. I'd honestly say the top six is a really interesting top group that's somewhat tightly packed, then you have Edwin Rios kind of in his own tier mashing in the majors, and then 8-11 was the next tier.

Mike (Honolulu):

Does Keibert Ruiz push out Austin Barnes as the #2 Dodger catcher in 2021? 2022?

Kyle Glaser: We see how much the Dodgers value Barnes defensive ability every year in the postseason. I don't think they'll be so quick to move on from him.

Cavalli is number one.   His stuff is early Strasburg-esque

I’m a little stunned we got a player for Lester that can be at least a serviceable MLB player. Even if it is only as a 4th or 5th OF.

Lane Thomas played CF in Rochester tonight. Went 2-for-4 with an RBI. So far, so good.

Donavan Casey played CF for Harrisburg tonight, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, a walk, and a strikeout.

Ha!

Plays CF. Fast. Powerful arm. Hits homers. Hmmm...strikes out about three times for every walk...

It's 2021. Strikeouts are good.

Like, a poor man's version that is faster but with less power.

Michael A Taylor was a useful #4 OF for years. That'd be a good return.

And he would be the Nats starting CF this season except the team needs to give Robles more time to show that he can be a major leaguer. Unless Robles is hit by a bold of magic, the Nats are, again, looking for a regular CF. Didn't we talk about "the hunt for the great White Whale"?

I'm down for MAT 2.0.

If he can learn to take a few more walks, I'd gladly take a .230/.310/.460 hitter. I know he's likely more of a .230/.290/.410 guy but I'd still take that .700 OPS over Robles.

And yes, I'd still groan over all the rally killing strikeouts.

the White Whale was a CF leafdoff hitter.  That's not MAT, at least on a good team.

FWIW, if we are talking about leadoff hitters, Robles's OBP by month:
April:.346
May: .346
June: .337
July: .254

Adequate for a leadoff hitter for the first 3 months but for the presence of Schwarber.  Looks like his OBP started to dive around 6/25.  Finished the month on 3 times in 13 PAs. Been about .250 OBP since.

I remember the White Whale as a good CF: trustworthy fielder at the most important position and a good hitter. Who complained that Eddie Yost had to play CF? Yost nearly always led the AL in walks, with a lifetime OBP of .394 over 18 seasons. I want a CF who covers the OF and hits .300 with 20 or 25 homers, and does not try to lead the league in strikeouts.

I think that was a gift to the A's. Of course, none of Guasch, Shuman, and the OF guy have had time to do much, and Harrison and Gomes are fine ballplayers.
