Sounds like the city has a pretty strong connection to the name. Seems like on some level that’s how it’s supposed to work. I think it’s a good choice.
I was expecting Spiders, so was pretty surprised at Guardians, which I didn't like when I first heard. Even within a 1/2 hour, I'm beginning to like it. I think it's a perfectly fine choice.
it was inspired by the statues at the entrance to the Hope Memorial bridge near the park that are called the "Guardians of Traffic".

Some of the inter-web discussions includes those who have resided there or in Northeast Ohio who are indicating that they absolutely had no clue about the statues being called the guardians of anything
Really have no idea why some folks are judgmental about names of franchises in other places.
BTW how many years before Washington gets a name for its football club?
Was referencing thoughts given by people purporting to be from that area, not other places
Maybe they should take a page from uninspiring European football club names and just call it F.C. Washington. It would probably fit well with D.C. United.
