Avs/Blues should be a good one. Was watching some highlights from game five and the goaltending in the west seem inferior to the East. Or is the defense worse?  Or offense so much better?

The NHL playoffs started May 2. NBA started April 16. Ususally hockey starts mid April but they started the season like a month later than usual I believe. Then the Olympics break was programmed in. Not sure if they will keep the later start next season.
I'll just emily littela this and say "never mind."

Goaltending was mostly awful in the battle of Alberta. Smith is wildly inconsistent

Quite the finish.

Lightning and Rangers would be an unexpected East final. At least the Avs and Oilers should be fun.

When Smith is bad, he’s really bad.

The Lightning-Rangers game is much more exciting than I expected. I don’t want Tampa to win again but don’t want the Rangers to make the finals.

Looked at the advanced stats for the West first game and expected goals were about 3 for each team. So the goaltending sucked.  That probably won’t change.

I don’t have a horse in the race, but Edmonton vs New York sounds way more interesting to me than Tampa bay vs Colorado.

The Oilers vs the team that won their last cup as the Oilers.

Colorado is just as good as Edmonton offensively.

I guess I do not recall who was on the Rangers cup team from the Oilers other than Messier.

From the 1990 Oilers cup-winning team: Glenn Anderson, Craig MacTavish, Esa Tikkaneen, Kevin Lowe, Jeff Beukeboom, Mark Messier, and Adam Graves were all on the Rangers when they won the cup in 94.

Thanks. I like to forget about the Rangers and they are generally forgettable. Hoping last night was just a blip on the radar.

That 1994 Rangers team was really really good. They led the league with 112 points, and besides the Edmonton crew they had Mike Richter, Brian Leatch, and Sergie Zubov (and former Caps great Mike Gartner).

Still Vancouver was so upset losing the final they tried to burn down the city.

I'm sure that's true, but New York and Edmonton is a classic matchup. Colorado would be next on that scale, but the Rangers and the Oilers screams "Hockey!" to me. Less so with the other teams involved.

That's just me, though.

Agreed, that's the matchup I'm pulling for. The Oilers have played the Islanders twice in the finals, but never the Rangers.

Not sure why the Rangers would be a classic matchup. They’ve been in like two Finals in the last 50 years. Tampa has three Cups in the last 20 years. Going for a three peat is interesting and first time that would have been done in a while.

Edit. Three finals for the Rangers since 1950. With one Cup. They are like the anti classic team. By far the west history of the original six teams.

any matchup involving an Original 6 team has more of a "classic" connotations than one involving a team added in the past couple of decades.  I'll even give a WHA team or a "Western Division" team that stayed in its location since the first expansion a "classic" feel.  Coyotes, Lightning, Blue Jackets :spaz:

I root against any FL team in any sport - first choice, Oilers; second choice, anyone but Lightning
