The way they have been playing I was going to do the same thing.  But they would not let me in the rink.

Khaira is from the big Punjabi community in Surrey BC...CBC carries "Hockey Night in Canada" in Punjabi; it is a total blast to watch - the announcers are seriously animated superfans.

We saw that show while we were in Toronto a few years ago...almost enough to have made the trip worth it by itself...  :D

NHL players elect to skip the Olympics...

Good on 'em...

Wonder what they do to fill the schedule void this creates?  Covid-19 make-ups, I suppose...

It's always about the money.  Get stuck in China in quarantine for 3-5 weeks and you don't get paid for games you miss while you are out...

I think the entire sports world should skip this frankly...but folks train their entire lives for this moment...I guess they deserve a stage...

I read somewhere that they were thinking about moving the break earlier to avoid cancellations in January. But what you said makes more sense. Of course arenas probably have plans already.

Where did you hear the players voted that way? I haven’t seen it reported anywhere, although most of the usual commentators believe that’s how it’ll ultimately go.

Season will allegedly be locked down tomorrow through ??.

Current plan is tomorrow through Sunday. No games are scheduled Sunday, but teams are allowed to practice or to travel for Monday games. All teams will be required to close their practice facilities and then, on Sunday, all personnel (including players) must test negative before entering.

I saw a report this morning that said the owners may invoke their contractual right to back out of the Olympics in order to use that time to make up all the postponed games (close to 50 games postponed so far). I take that more or less as a given. Stinks for a guy like Ovechkin, but on the other hand, no NHL fan should want his team's players to risk getting stuck quarantining in China for five weeks.

Edited to add two things:

(1) I won't be surprised if the Caps' game Monday is postponed. They're to host Ottawa and I wouldn't be surprised if there are further issues with cross-border travel.

(2) Here's the article from NHL.com. The league and the union are treating this as an extension of the Christmas break that is mandated by the CBA (the CBA also includes a roster freeze for about a week surrounding Christmas): https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-nhlpa-postpone-five-games-thursday/c-329185602

Much as Ovie must want to represent Россия internationally, he must also have his eye on a different prize these days (894)

Someone has to have a screen capture somewhere on the interwebs...

She is often a bit over the top, so to speak, but I think she even outdid herself today...

Bettman just confirmed the NHL is pulling out of the Olympics. No surprise and it's the right decision.

Curious as to whether or not counties try and field teams.

If they do, I'm going with Bristol, MA or Hennepin, MN
