NHL 2021-22
« Topic Start: July 18, 2021, 01:36:02 PM »
I will start this by noting that it was posted in the other thread about Carry Price not being on the Montreal protected list. I’m surprised also.

The Flyers picked up Ryan Ellis for second overall pick bust Nolan Patrick and Phil Myers. Me likey.  Next hope Seattle takes Jake Voracek and his big contract.

Saw a guy in South Carolina the other day with a Steelers sticker on his trunk and then also a Vegas Knights one. Must be a MAF fan.

My son showed me a few of the videos that teams have released to celebrate the release of their schedules. The VGN one is hysterical, lots of inside jokes / pot-shots at other teams.

VGN trades Marc Andre Fleury to Chicago for essentially nothing in a salary dump

That's bonkers.  Actually the whole goalie situation around the league is strange.  Holtby just got bought out too.

Not sure what Chicago is doing. They dumped Duncan Keith only to overpay on a big contract for Seth Jones who is not that great. Now an old goalie on a big contract?

There's some speculation that Fluery will retire, so it could have been a move by Vegas to force him out.  He was due $7 million this upcoming year.

Jones is 26...Keith is 38...

Fleury is only there on a 1 year deal...and they needed goaltending.

I never saw Keith as one of the "100 Best NHL Players." Iginla got royally screwed on that deal...

Everything I have read about Jones says his advanced stats are getting worse each year. Of course he could just have been tired of Torts.

Schmidty headed from Vancouver to Winnipeg to join Dillon and Perrault...

Vancouver completes it's Capitals purge after buying Holtby out and sending Beags to Arizona...

He has done well for himself.  I know my youngest was sad to see him go...until Tommy showed up anyway...

Pretty good tandem. And as I recall they drafted some decent defensemen.

There are reports that the Caps are interested in trading to get VV back.

No doubt. That would be an excellent move if they could manage it, given their salary cap situation. Vanecek's contract is for less than the current league minimum salary.

They don't need draft picks...they just picked up 30 of them...they need players on the ice in a few months...

I think he's the second or third such acquisition they've made this offseason, although he is by far the biggest goon of them.
