Season will allegedly be locked down tomorrow through ??.
Current plan is tomorrow through Sunday. No games are scheduled Sunday, but teams are allowed to practice or to travel for Monday games. All teams will be required to close their practice facilities and then, on Sunday, all personnel (including players) must test negative before entering.
I saw a report this morning that said the owners may invoke their contractual right to back out of the Olympics in order to use that time to make up all the postponed games (close to 50 games postponed so far). I take that more or less as a given. Stinks for a guy like Ovechkin, but on the other hand, no NHL fan should want his team's players to risk getting stuck quarantining in China for five weeks.
Edited to add two things:
(1) I won't be surprised if the Caps' game Monday is postponed. They're to host Ottawa and I wouldn't be surprised if there are further issues with cross-border travel.
(2) Here's the article from NHL.com. The league and the union are treating this as an extension of the Christmas break that is mandated by the CBA (the CBA also includes a roster freeze for about a week surrounding Christmas):
