Avoiding collisions and encouraging more steals makes sense. I did read somewhere (can’t find the article now) that larger bases were used in that experimental minor league, and collisions went down and steals went up.

Hopefully something will be done to make the bases less slippery as well to avoid injuries.

they really should go with the double bag at 1B to prevent injuries.

That removes one of the more interesting camera shots in the game so they won’t do it

Then change the base path so the base is actually in it.

This sounds different.  In those leagues you play the teams in the other conference less often even if you do play them every year.  Such as the NBA the Wizards only play the west coast teams twice a year but play the East more often.  Also baseball has three game series trips can be long.  The most logical thing would be to play all the NL teams the same amount of games but more than what you play the AL (if you are an NL team).  If you play each of the the 29 teams the same amount of games you would play each only 5/6 times each year.

If I’m not mistaken, there is one series per year vs each team from the other league and two series per year against teams in your own league and then probably an extra series or two against your division rivals.

I love this. Because I hate endless games against the Marlins and Mets

via Chelsea Janes:

Quote
MLB announces experimental rule changes will be tested in the minors during the 2022 season:

Automatic balls and strikes in Triple-A (Triple-A West  from May 17th on, Triple A East at all games in Charlotte) and Low A (a challenge system in which pitcher, catcher, batter can appeal ump's ball or strike call to ABS. Three appeals each, keep the appeal if you're right.)

Pitch timer, all full-season affiliates.

Larger bases, all full-season affiliates.

Defensive positioning limits (four players on the infield, two on each side of second) in AA/A

I like all the new rules particularly the NL DH rule. Tired of seeing automatic outs in the lineup.

Changing the dimensions of the bases may make sense and help avoid collisions and such, but I'm still getting used to the idea of such a change to long standard aspect of the game.

Somebody needs to rework Riders in the Sky for the Ghost Runners.

Ghost Runners on the Fly

The score is tied, the starter's gone, it's inning number 10.
The closer's on to try get the home team up again.
The last out from the 9th comes on, says "My turn to try."
"Just put the ball into play, this Ghost Runner will fly."

Relax. Just for 2022. They should have a shootout after 10 innings.
and a point to the loser  :icon_frown:

I said back in January I wondered whether they'd wind up adopting the NCAA's version of the DH rule (the NCAA has had the "P/DH" role for years). That didn't take long.

Or a duel, two pistols and twenty paces.  Advantage Papelbon?

I wouldn't hate the ghost runner rule if it came after two or three regular innings.

Especially because if it’s in the 12th inning or so, that’s far enough away to not impact the strategy in the eighth and ninth. When it starts in the 10th, say for a team that can’t get any on base, could completely change the endgame strategy

I think a home run derby after the 10th is a cool idea.

How about a bat toss, where players spin around with the bat like the hammer throw and see how far into the outfield they land

Something for the pitchers - they have to hit a Joe West dummy below the waste but not on the legs with a fastball from the mound. Whoever can do the most in 9 pitches is deemed a really great person.  Wouldn't necessarily figure out who won, but just something that needs to happen.

Even better: beer chug bat races. Run to a bat, put your forehead on the bat, chug a beer and spin around ten times, run to the next player

How about if the 'ghost runner' has to recite, perfectly from memory, the infield fly rule before they can advance... ;)

As others in the thread had mentioned 'ghost runners', I was just going with the flow... ;)

Zombie runner, not ghost runner
both terms are used.  Zombie is catching on, though.  I guess the last out from the prior inning is undead.

i saw the other day that the league is proposing a number of rules to limit sign stealing, including not letting batters look at scouting cards, and allowing pitchers and catchers to use an audio system
