4 years, $70MM is the $10 he'll get next year and 3 years, $20MM AAV after that. I know I'm the one who says there's no need to pay a lot for a first baseman, but at this point, nailing him down might make sense. I don't like your hypothetical 3 year deal because that's like $22.5 AAC for the last 2 years, and I think there is less security but more AAV.
It makes some sense if you lack power at other positions such as LF and 3B.
