Nationals vs Giants, Game 2
« Topic Start: June 12, 2021, 01:18:40 PM »
S.F. Giants  vs.   Washington Nationals
Kevin Gausman (R) (7-0, 1.28 ERA)  vs.  Erick Fedde (R) (3-4, 4.35 ERA)
2:05 PM, Nats Park

Giants
Nationals
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) LF
1. Kyle Schwarber (L) LF
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
2. Trea Turner (R) SS
3. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Juan Soto (L) RF
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Josh Bell (S) 1B
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
5. Josh Harrison (R) 2B
6. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
6. Starlin Castro (R) 3B
7. Mike Tauchman (L) CF
7. Alex Avila (L) C
8. Jason Vosler (L) 3B
8. Erick Fedde (R) P
9. Kevin Gausman (L) P
9. Andrew Stevenson (L) CF

Notes:  Mike Yastrzemski? Kevin Gausman? Still in orange and black.  Fedde back off IL for his COVID positive, so it'll be curious how long he can go.  Nats need innings after the bullpen game last night.  They've brought up 2 additional arms, Jefry Rodriguez and Andres Machado for depth.

Gausman is working on a 24 inning, no earned run streak over his last 4 starts, but he did give up 2 runs in his last start on 6/5.  Fedde, of course, has not pitched in an MLB game since 5/16.  Giants don't have much of a track record against Fedde.  Nats, OTOH have 4 guys with 10+ PAs and .890 or higher OPS vs. Gausman (Bell - 17 PAs, OPS 1.000; Soto - 11, 1.080; Turner - 14, .891; Zim - 11, .955). Castro has a poor track record (.40, .675).  I think that's Castro's NYY time with Gausman at Balmer.

Davey loading the lineup with lefty hitters, with Stevenson for Robles, Avila, and switch hitter Bell, along with regulars Schwarber and Soto.  Kapler similarly has 7 lefty hitters in.

So where is Zim?
double-header and a righty pitcher, so riding the bench for the afternoon game.  that said, zim has had some success against Gausman in the past, just not this Gausman.

Fangraphs has tonight's pitchers as Conor Menez, a lefty, vs Jefry Rodriguez, while B-R has ???? vs Joe Ross.

Unfortunately for the most part when a pitcher leaves the Orioles and goes to another team they usually end up doing really well so it would not surprise me if he looks like a Cy Young winner today.

I wonder how many of the Nats' hits against Gausman were in Camden Yards vs. Nats Park.

Grandpa be shaking his head at Mikey and saying, "let me show you how to field" and Mikey saying "you played left, Conig, Reggie Smith, and Dewey played in the Sun."

Remember Fedde's last start?

Yes, that was when we won a series and had hope to win a few more.

Stick-um working today. I think Fedde consulted with Jacob deGrom last off-season.

I was thinking about that series yesterday when I looked at the NL West standings. Turned out that the Nats weren't turning a corner for the better; just that the Diamonbacks were collapsing, going 2-21 since.
