Washington Wizards (2021-22)
« Topic Start: June 08, 2021, 12:58:07 PM »
Wizards are reportedly interested in Kristaps Porzingis.

https://fortyeightminutes.com/wizards-rumors-porzingis/

The above suggests that the starting point for the Wizards would be Bertans and their #1 2022 pick (#11 overall).  Porzingis is reportedly upset at having to play second fiddle to Luka, so perhaps he's not a good fit here given he'd play 3rd or 4th fiddle behind Westbrook, Beal and Rui?

Are we sure Ernie is really gone, because that seems like an Ernie move

He'd be a decent upgrade over Bertans if we could get him for a swap + 2nd rounder.

2021 stats:
Porzingis: 20.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 47.6% FG, 37.6% 3PT
Bertans: 11.5 / 2.9 / 0.9 / 40.4% / 39.5%

So that gives you a starting five in 2022 of Westbrook, Beal, Porzingis, Rui, Bryant with Deni, Gafford, and everyone else off the bench.

Not much of an improvement, but that's arguably a better starting squad than 2020-21. Porzingis would need to stay healthy and be comfortable being the third or fourth option in the offense.

If you want a true Ernie move that would even have made Wes Unseld proud: This floats the idea of sending Bertans, Hutchison, Bryant, and five draft picks to Dallas. :hysterical:

A guy who won’t play second fiddle to the beat young player in the league is not going to happily play third fiddle to Westbrook and Beal

well, he might appear to only to take the strings off the fiddle and garotte one or both when they are asleep on a coast to coast flight.  Not that I have any experience with that.

...the Wizards are planning to move to Riga? (Porzingis and Bertans are both Latvian - maybe they'd trade for the former and keep the latter.)

Scott Brooks is out. ESPN reports they couldn't reach agreement on a deal.

The Washington Wizards have a pair of longtime assistant coaches who have never had the head coaching job at the top of their head coaching search.
”Watch Sam Cassell and Wes Unseld as two of the leading candidates in Washington,” said Brian Windhorst.

Cassell was previously an assistant coach for the Wizards from 2009 until 2014 before joining the coaching staff of Doc Rivers with the Los Angeles Clippers and then Philadelphia 76ers.

Unseld also began his coaching career with the Wizards and also has had stints with the Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic and now the Denver Nuggets. Unseld is the son of the late Washington Bullets’ legend Wes Unseld.

The Wizards are searching for a replacement for Scott Brooks.

It really says three if you read the article.  Includes Lee who is also a Bucks assistant. From other reading I think Ham is the choice. And they are waiting for the Finals to be over.

between Bobby Portis, and Robin Lopez's DNA, the Wizards basically won an NBA championship last night. :)

The Lakers are near a deal to acquire Washington's Russell Westbrook for Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and a 2021 first-round pick, sources tell ESPN

ESPN:
Caldwell Pope is better than Schroeder.  Still doesn’t push the needle much.  Maybe just trade Beal now too?

Thanks for your service Russ.

I’ll admit that I haven’t regularly watched the NBA in forever, but if current Russ is still as frustrating as OKC Russ, LeBron will try to strangle him at some point.

Wizards Russ was incredible. He doesn’t care much for shooting, just makes plays for others.
