With VV pitching it was already a guaranteed 4 hour game. The ump injury adds even more time.
Told ya.

Trying to give the fans their money's worth.
:hysterical:

Girardi clearly sending a message to Soto but not cool especially on a day they sent our starting pitcher to the hospital with a pitch to the face. Girardi is a POS in my book. 📕 Martinez should be pizzed!!! I know I am.

If he had started the inning with Neris you would not have noticed.  Probably did not want his rookie throwing too many pitches.  It's no big deal after all the other delays.  Davey should be upset with his own pen.

I agree. I'm not really comparing the teams. It just struck me that with our nostalgically-induced rose-colored glasses, comparing this piss-poor season performance with the WS winning team kind of ignores that we were nagging and moaning and calling for a break-up and sell-off (albeit me as a lurker) at the same point in 2019 as in 2021. Just found it a little ironic.

Ah, I'm with you there.  I just come down a little differently between the two seasons when rationally assessing what the rest of the summer might look like.  In 2019 I didn't see it as a question of whether the team stank or not, just whether or not they had time to make up the deficit.  This year there's a genuine question in my mind as to whether they'd have a shot in a 250-game season.

Yes, he should be upset with the pen. I would also be upset with a pitching change in the 9th with a 6 run lead especially after 4-1/2 hours of nonsense that included my starting pitcher getting sent to the hospital by a pitch to the face while trying to get a bunt down.
Girardi clearly going after and sending a message to Soto because of all his stare down antics. He pulled his pitcher to put an exclamation mark on it. “Take that Soto!!!!! I don’t care what the situation is I’m coming after YOU!!!!”
I love a good rivalry so I’m good with it however, I hope Harper is hitting from his back in the next series with  my Nats.

I guess I am not clear with what Voth being hit has to do with a pitching change in the 9th?

In any event the Phillies have blown more leads with their pen than any other team the past two years so think he was just being cautious.

Just a long day out in the heat then Girardi makes a pitching change after Soto to face a switch hitter that is better from the left side when the game was clearly over. Ridiculous

Yea, I kind of agree. VV should have been yanked after he hit Voth. Then there was the netting fiasco.

And with a 6 run lead, Girardi is switching pitchers in the 9th like its a close game. Maybe Sanchez was up against a pitch count, but if that were the case, he shouldnt have come into thr 9th

And they could have let the Nats outfielders stand out in the sun rather than letting them in their bullpen during the netting delay. Quite the bitter rivalry.

I took the point as being that Girardi is a dick, primarily.  Which is true.  That pitching change in the ninth was absurd.
