So, I guess it is better he's in the AL because he can DH when he's not pitching, but in the NL, I suppose he'd play first or left when he was not on the mound. I think Maddon gives up the DH when Ohtani is pitching.
I'd be really interested in seeing what the Mets would do with DeGrom if there were a DH. In an odd way, the exceptionally hitting pitchers benefit from a DH if they can DH when they are not ptiching. It's incredibly rare, but Micah Owings I think about 10 years ago probably could have DH'd.
