I understand that not everyone shares my cicada geekery, but I find these emergences to be just amazing. I spent a lot of time this weekend on the bike soaking in the sounds (and a bit of cicada pee). Most of Rock Creek Park--but especially Kensington, Maryland around the Mormon Tabernacle--is force 11 cicada right now.
funny. I did a ride up and back on the capital crescent yesterday PM. I'm getting used to hitting a few in mid-flight. I stopped to meet a friend for some tea / ice tea at Quartermaine's at Bethesda Ave or whatever the CCT dumps onto. When I went back to my bike, I had a nice cicada resting right on my front derailleur. I guess it liked cheap Shimano parts.
