Saw the Harlem Globetrotters beat the Washington Generals at Eagle Bank tonight. The two teams meet again tomorrow at CapOne

We don't have a college hockey thread this year, but the men's championship is a great game. Quinnipiac trailed2-1, got a power play with 4 minutes left. Coach takes a timeout with3:28 left, pulls his goalie for a 6 on 4, Minnesota kills the penalty so it is 6 on 5, and Quinnipiac scotes with 2:48 left. Game goes to overtime.

QU wins 10 seconds into OT for their first championship. Pecknold finally wins. He's been their coach since before they became a d1 program in 1999.

UCLA beat Hawaii in a close match to win the NCAA men’s volleyball title out in Fairfax

michigan beats maryland for the B1G men's lacrosse title. This will push Penn State, Maryland, and Hopkins into at large invites. Also, because the ACC only has 5 lacrosse programs, VA, Duke, and Notre Dame will get at large slots b/c they are the top 3 in the country. Those are 6 out of the 8 at large invites.  That squeezes out a lot of the regular season conference winners because there were at least 6 knocked out before conference finals (one being Penn State). None of the top 7 teams in the RPI won their tournament. Cornell (#7) has a decent shot.

Among possible at large candidates, probably just one of Penn (#10) and Denver(#11) makes it. Georgetown is the highest RPI to win its tournament (#8).  Yale, #9, can win the Ivy and get the automatic bid, but if Princeton wins, then Yale may still make it, having beat Denver, one of the teams looking for an at-large bid. But it would be weird for 3 leagues to hoover up all the at large bids.

Solid, especially on the Hawaii side. They even brought their band and cheerleaders. Maybe it helped interest that they had won the last two titles.

That’s great. Sounds like a bunch of fun.
I lived in Hawaii 1984-88. Voleyball was such a big deal. Mens and womens. We used to play after work on Tuesday nights at a playground.

yale makes it as the last revealed at large. they go to Georgetown #7 on Saturday


duke virginia notre dame top 3, all at large. umd, penn st, johns hopkins all at large and the next seeds. Georgetown is the only conference winner seeded and at home. Cornell is the last seeded at #8. they get Michigan.

And if you had Army as the one unseeded team to advance today, ...

Their goalie was terrific, and UMD 's didn't make many saves. Made a critical one with about a minute left and a second on the shot clock, but Army  covered the shot  and got the ball. They then made the mistake of scoring on an empty net with 53 seconds left. Umd won the faceoff, called time, scored quick, then won the next faceoff.
