Dockers?

(Image removed from quote.)

All USAFL clubs have a 'parent' AFL club - for Baltimore it is the Fremantle Dockers (Western Australia). Your DC Eagles are named after their club - West Coast Eagles (Perth - also Western Australia - both clubs are local rivals, with the West Coast derbies being one of the highlights of the season).

A couple of crazy games in ncaa women's lacrosse semis yesterday. I watched unc come back from 8 goals down in the 2nd half to beat Northwestern, then I guess UMD blew a 3 goal lead late to BC. UNC gets BC again I think for the 3rd time. Those games have been 1 sided.

For men's, the only trick will be if UMD gets worn down today to make Monday competitive.  They are too dominant.

Cornell and Rutgers should be a good game. Good year for the Ivy League to have six teams in the tourney and two in the final four. Believe they did not play at all last year.

Yes. I give the winner of Rutgers Cornell a shot at Maryland. Princeton could work them over, like Duke did to Yale in 2019. TD Ierlan was useless on Monday

During commentary on this weekend's Crows game, the booth crew delivered the immortal line ' they'll be having a threesome up in Brisbane...'  (I'm sure you wouldn't thnik anything else but that they were talking about the Lions fixture schedule... ;) )

In the most anticipated game of the season, Geelong defeated Melbourne 12.19.81 to 9.9.63, to leapfrog the Demons and take top spot on the ladder. Geelong now on a seven game winning streak. If this was a Grand Final preview, then roll on September... ;)

My folks lived in Queensland in the '60s, and from the sounds of it the raciest activity was going to "the tip" (dump) to drink beer and burn furniture.

My folks lived in Queensland in the '60s, and from the sounds of it the raciest activity was going to "the tip" (dump) to drink beer and burn furniture.

In those days, Queensland was the most socially conservative state in Australia, firmly adhereing to the 'White Australia' policy...

(from Wikipedia) The state's politics are traditionally regarded as being conservative relative to other states. Historically, the lack of an upper house, a former gerrymander favouring rural electoral districts, as well as the former system of optional preferential voting, has meant that Queensland had a long tradition of domination by strong-willed, populist premiers, often accused of authoritarian tendencies, holding office for long periods. This tendency was exemplified by the government of the state's longest-serving Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen.

Seems like many goals.  How does that stand against other all time greats?

He's No 21 on the all-time list. The only active players to have kicked more are Jack Riewold (Richmond), on 751 (so far) and, of course, the great Buddy Franklin (Sydney), currently on 1040. The all-time leader is Legend Of The Game Tony 'Plugger' Lockett, who kicked 1360 - a record which is unlikely to be broken.

And he's back!!!  Legendary coach Alistair Clarkson will return, to AFL coaching, taking over at his former playing club North Melbourne.

Where does the time go?  The AFL regular season concluded, this weekend, with the Round 23 fixtures - we now know the Finals line-ups.

Geelong had already secured the Minor Premiership (top of the ladder) last week - they trounced West Coast, to secure top-spot. West Coast, after a nightmare season, finished second bottom, only escaping the wooden-spoon (which went to North Melbourne) on points percentage. In a highly anticipated fixture, defending champions Melbourne sent a powerful statement of form by easily defeating the fancied Brisbane Lions (at the Gabba, in front of a sell-out, partisan Brisbane crowd), a result which dropped the Lions to sixth place, and an elimination, rather than a qualifying, final. Sydney defeated St Kilda, but that wasn't enough to take second place from Melbourne - so Geelong and Melbourne get home-field advantage in the Finals. In a thriller, Collingwood defeated Carlton by one point - a defeat which cost Carlton a place in the Finals, as Western Bulldogs defeated Hawthorn to sneak in on percentage.Despite an injury ravaged season, Richmond clinched a spot, in the top eight, by defeating the lack-lustre Essendon (whose week of off-field turmoil culminated, today with the sacking of Head Coach, Ben Rutten). Fremantle complete the top-eight, as their excellent season continues - they defeated Greater Western Sydney to cement their place.

So - Qualifying Finalists - Geelong, Melbourne, Sydney, Collingwood (so the 'double-chance' - the losers, of Qualifying Finals, get another chance as they play the winners of the Elimination Finals)

Elinination Finalists - Fremantle, Brisbane, Richmond, Western Bulldogs (as the name suggests, the losers of these Finals are eliminated)

There is now a pre-Finals bye-week - Finals get underway from September 1st (edit)

Oh - have to mention it, I suppose..the Crows had a disappointing end to the season, losing heavily to Port Adelaide in the Showdown derby... :(

Your DC Eagles crushed Baltimore Dockers 16-16-112 to 2-5-17, in their last match... ;)

50 years ago. One of the big upsets of all time. Still no idea how he could make up that much ground.  Jim McKay was great at calling those races also.

I believe you are correct.

It’s crazy because it looks like he made up ten meters in the last one hundred meters of the race. Caught two Kenyans.  And the undoubtedly juiced Soviet who might still have won if he did not fall at the finish. That was the Olympics where the Russian won the 100 and 200 meter dashes shocking the Americans who of course had dominated those races. So this win made us all feel much better. But the other things happened …

Also wasn't it Frank Shorter's Olympics?  Or was that Montreal?

Sadly, Wottle's not the most memorable thing about the 1972 Olympics.

Yes. 1972.
