But aren’t those players already vaccinated
Rules are rules.  Until they change them.

I'm not ready to bench Bell.

It's been bad so far. But he is only guy on this roster aside from Soto with the ability to get hot and carry an offense for a while. If he is struggling a month from now, bench him. But let him keep hitting while the team is still scuffling near the top of the division.

I don't think he will get hot, but I think it is worth the risk.

lol.   Turner is that guy.   Bell isn’t even close

That's a nice looking line up today:
1. Trea Turner SS
2. Josh Harrison 2B
3. Juan Soto RF
4. Ryan Zimmerman 1B
5. Josh Bell DH
6. Kyle Schwarber LF
7. Starlin Castro 3B
8. Alex Avila C
9. Victor Robles CF

Is it?  It's better than what's been run out there a lot, but that Bell/Schwarber/Castro section isn't exactly a deadly 5/6/7.

Why the hell isn’t Hernandez playing LF? And don’t say he can’t play left just let Soto play left and put Hernandez in right.

Good they didn't listen to you since Schwarby got the big double.

They’ll each get the occasional big hit but Schwarber is hitting .193, bell is down to .137

Bell is awful.  It seems like he doesn't track the ball and is always surprised by how fast the pitch came in.  Long, loopy, stiff swing.  Just a disaster.

.134 / .200 / .293 for bell. He should not be in the majors right now.

Davey disagrees.  Not only should he be in the majors, but he should be in the lineup to provide protection for the best hitter in the majors.

I don't know the ins and outs of the option rule, but it looks like he has not been back to the minors since his initial call up in 2016.  I'll assume that he was added to their 40 man after 2015 (first appeared in the minors in 2012), so one has been burned.  There may be a rule that if you are old enough and have enough service time, you could refuse an optional assignment, but if that's not the case, it probably would be time for him to work out his kinks in Rochester.  That way, we'd only have one black hole (Schwarber) and one white dwarf (Robles) working out the kinks in the line up.

Jake Noll deserves Bell's spot right now. .318 / .348 / .500 at Rochester.  Noll did hit .353 in very limited (17 PAs) action last year as well.

There is.  Five years, which Schwarber has already.  So while Schwarber has two options left, he can refuse assignment.   Bell can't - he only has 4 years and change - and he also has two options left.

Not on the 40 man, though.

More or less, you can work your way through one guy trying to get back to expected production if you have others exceeding expectations or they all are doing what you need.  Right now, there's Bell, Schwarber, even Soto relative to expectations, and Robles to the extent we had expectations. That's just too many holes to play at once. Soto isn't hurting us, and Robles is useful as long as he gets on at a good clip and plays D, but somebody has to be out of the lineup to make it productive, and the obvious swap out is Zimmerman for Bell, with Bell working things out in the minors.  It's just unacceptable to continue to throw away runs while so many work things out.  It's more "you are what your record says you are" for this team if it has so many holes.

You can celebrate the success today and still ask for more down the line. the two aren't mutually exclusive.

For better or worse, Davey is very loyal to his players. Bell and Schwarber will remain in the lineup. Hopefully they can build off of today.

They have looked better and better. Bell up to .650 OPS now and Schwarber about .750.
