I’m going to be at today’s game in Worcester. Could be interesting.

And why in the world is Worcester pronounced woo-ster?
woo-ster is kind of an exaggeration. The woo is closer to the oo in hook than the oo in wahoo. I think it's a comedic exaggeration. I never heard "Woo Town" from any of the kids I knew from there. As for why it is not Wore ster, that's not how they say it in England.

Speaking of that park, there was a video of one of their kids hitting a homer off a passing train in left the other day

Kind of like Gloucester, which is not Glou-Ces-Ter. Add in some New England time saving, and there you go

Welp, the WooSox (as they call themselves) just dropped a 5 spot on Jefry Rodriguez. It’s 5-3, top of the 4th.

Ran into a Nats employee setting up the scouting camera. He saw our WS19 apparel and chatted a while. A few minutes later he came back with a couple of International League balls for us!

Much better. We just dropped 4 on them. Current score- 9-5 going into the bottom of the 6th.

It’s hot as HELL here, but fortunately we snagged seats in the shade. And the local Wormtown Brewery’s IPA isn’t bad, despite the name.

THAT was interesting. Yasmina Tomas hit a HR to make it 11-5. Next batter up was C Tres Barrera. The WooSox pitcher promptly drilled him in the shoulder. Dugouts cleared, bullpens emptied, and furious milling ensued. Umps tossed both the pitcher and Barrera, who did nothing but glare when hit. Matt LeCroy was not happy, to say the least.

Just as I was writing this, two batters later another Red Wing was hit. Umps left pitcher in, and looked like warned BOTH benches. LeCroy is FURIOUS, but apparently did not say any magic words as he’s still here. It’s  12-5at the stretch.

And now our pitcher innocently and accidentally drilled a WooSox. He was immediately ejected. Carter Kieboom ran over and must have said a magic word as he was tossed immediately. LeCroy came roaring out, and was also immediately tossed. He got his money’s worth as he had a very animated discussion with the umps for quite a while.

Still 12-5.

Wormtown was how I always referred to it, but I'm from Boston.

Fortunately our next stop is Portland, hopefully pronounced port-land. No weird pronunciation issues.

If someone hit that train, that’s impressive. It’s quite aways away. Will have to look for that clip.

Red Wings improve to 5-3 in June as Tyler Eppler throws seven innings of one-hit shutout ball.  Justin Miller got his 4th save and has a 0.63 ERA so far. Dakota Bacus is at 1.88.

Rochester right-hander Tyler Eppler has been named the Triple-A East Pitcher of the Week. He pitched seven scoreless innings, allowed one hit and two walks, and struck out five on Wednesday at Lehigh Valley.

Looks like a journeyman who was pitching in independent ball before the Nats picked him up off the scrap heap, he still has an ERA on the season of near 7.

Eppler's clock struck midnight, last night's line: 4.2 IP, 11H, 10R, 10ER, 2BB, 3K, 6  HRs, ERA up to 8.05

Lost 7 - 1 today. The hitting is dismal after you get past the guys who have played some for the Nats, and an OF/DH named Daniel Palka, who had a decent 2018 for the White Sox and then fell off a cliff in 2019. He's hitting about .305.

We were there Thursday. It’s an older ballpark, but a nice place to watch a game. The concourse has an almost life-size statue of a horse made entirely of old baseball gloves. Why it was there and what it represented I don’t know, but it was certainly interesting. There’s also a rather neat statue of a huge flying Red Wing raptor-type bird. Parra was starting that night, using Baby Shark as his walk up. We and a few others did the shark thing, but the most fans there didn’t get into it. It’s their first year as a Nats affiliate, so there’s not a lot of Nats history there.
