Giolito

See the Red Sox got to Lucas for 8 runs (7 earned) in one inning of work today. Maybe it was the 11AM start.

So a dude who's had mid-3 ERAs and gotten Cy Young votes the last 2 years had a bad start after a 2.55 in 3 starts to start the year.

Don't you wish we had a starter besides Scherzer who was healthy and pitched well in 3 out of 4 starts?

Joe Ross has pitched well in 2 of 3.  As has Fedde.

2 of 3 isn't 3 of 4, and I'd trust that a little more if they'd done things like actually pitch successfully for full seasons recently.  Fedde's also only had 2 starts this year and his longer one was 5 innings.  Fine, but...well, hardly much to write home about.

Giolito's last start before the stinker was 7 innings, no runs.  Ross has exactly one such start in his career.  It was in  April 2016.  Fedde's never done it.  Giolito's done it seven times since 2019.

It’s ok.  We got Adam and our title.

The White Sox have turned Adam Eaton into Giolito and Lance Lynn

They’re 8-9 and Eaton is batting .250 in his last ten games so let’s not get carried away just yet.

I wish we had Lynn though, even with him heading for the IL

hey, whose to say the White Sox won't end up missing Dunning?  And Rodrigo Lopez is on his way back to the majors.

Giolito showed a decent curve in the minors, and reportedly has a slider in his arsenal. In watching the debacle against Boston, however, he threw only fastballs and change-ups. Whenever he got two strikes on the batter, he threw his change. And the Red Sox seemed to know what was coming and took full advantage.

Alex Cora is managing so I am sure they were stealing the pitches.

Lucas Giolito is missing his next start because he cut his finger while opening a bottle of water. He thought it was a twist-off cap, but it was not. Must have been some fancy water.

Seems to have turned into a dependable 50/50 starter with 3.50 - 4.0 ERA. Not the next Strasburg but maybe a number 3 starter.

He would have to be hurt all the time to be the next Strasburg. On a more serious note seems his stats would make him more like a number 2.

Particularly if you look at him after he re-invented his delivery and mechanics. From 2019 to present, he's got a .588 winning percentage and a 3.55 ERA.

All in all, Giolito has panned put pretty close to as he was originally scouted.

Lynn and Rodon are pitching great for Chicago. Like two number ones. Then Keuchel and Giolito or doing well. Like two number twos. Great staff this year.
