Victor is a horrible base runner.  He best not try to steal at all.

If Robles steals they still walk Soto. Not a good play.

Ground ball pitcher. DP was in play. I see why he went.

But I wouldn't have sent him. I would have put it in Trea's hands with more pressure on Trienen.

We’ve had our chances. I think we have at least one more

Hope so, but that was the fat part of the order...

Kinda feel like that was the chance you need to capitalize on. Runner on first and third, no outs with Turner and Soto coming up. Geez. Doubt there will be another.

Before that attempt he had a 64% success rate. You need 67% success rate to help team according to statisticians.
And on dp run probably scores.

Robles had a 73% rate. 36/49 = 0.7346938776

Awful to waste a good start from Joe Ross. Voth tomorrow?

One good thing about the Nats-Caps doubleheader: Washington plays the Buffalo Sabres in about fifteen minutes. Game should be tougher than a month ago, when the Caps wiped out the Sabres, but still should win.

A sad thought about the Nats infield, 3B, Kieboom, and The One That Got Away: Nats waiting for the return of Josh Harrison.

dp with 1st and 3d no outs still scores the run. Your 2 best hitters are Turner and Soto, and RZ is up there. You don't run there

That doesn't count the number of times he got picked off first base (or any base) or the number of times he's leaning back toward the base when the pitch is thrown.  He would be better off not trying to steal bases, and just work on getting a good jump off the base and improving his base running skills in general.

pick offs used to count as caught stealings.  Has the rule changed?

If you're picked off while heading back to the base, no, counts as PO in the box score.  The ones that count as CS are when the pitcher has the guy caught so badly that he runs for the next base.  I think that's been the rule for a while.

Here's MLB's definition of CS: https://www.mlb.com/glossary/standard-stats/caught-stealing#:~:text=Definition,before%20the%20runner%20reaches%20it.

Seems a bit weird not to include pick offs in caught stealing and caught stealing %.  If you get picked off a lot, that's just as bad as getting thrown out at the base to which you are trying to advance, which was sixthree175's original point re: Robles.  I can see tracking both numbers.

They are just waiting to get to 19-31 and then catch fire
