I have to say I am not but depends what price he is asking.  He was awful last year. At 37 can he bounce back?  If you can get him for like $2 million not bad insurance with innings limits most guys are likely to have this year.

The #Nationals are adding RHP Kyle McGowin, LHP Sam Clay, C Tres Barrera, INF Luis García and OF Yadiel Hernandez for the season opener tomorrow, sources tell @TheAthletic. Expecting more to replace those in quarantine/isolation. Should be able to see all at midday workout later.

I wonder if Gomes is still ok? The Lucroy singing is leaving me scratching my head because there were enough other catchers (Castillo?) left in the "MiLB Limbo before their season starts in May" to not warrant that signing.

I remember when Jonathan Lucroy was Jonathan Lucroy.

I thought Castillo was still hurt?

I seriously doubt that Lucroy is a short-term patch.  I don't think he's had any work with a team this year.  My guess is that he'll go to the alt site, get in some at bats, catch some of the minor leaguers at the site, and then be a potential depth piece if there's roster craziness.

He was in camp with the White Sox and went 6-18 with 5 walks in limited action.  He didn't get cut until 3/29, so he's probably as ready as anyone else the Nats have.

Heck, he would have broke with this team instead of Perez . . .

I would love it, love it, love it if he became Lucroy again.  Castillo never played an inning, so I'm guessing he's much closer to ready than Castillo.  But I will not think there's a potential steal here.  The power is completely gone.

Welcome back Tomas and McFarland. Good counter to our early season covid woes.

Lineup hasn't officially been announced yet, but Martinez says Lucroy is indeed catching, Stevenson in left field, Hernan Perez at second base. Davey on constructing the lineup: "It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be."

Who is playing short stop I wonder?   Poor Kieboom can't even get in the lineup when they've lost half their infielders.

Edit: Oh nevermind, I missed Trea is on that lineup.  Well, that helps.  I wonder what is up with him:

Dave Martinez says that Trea Turner wasn't available to work out yesterday. Did not specify exactly why that was. Martinez said Turner's "spit tests" kept coming back negative but sounds like he wasn't cleared to be on the field Monday.

Both catchers out, Bell, Harrison, Schwarber...who else?

And wow, I didn't expect to ever see Cody Wilson on a major league roster.  Last time I saw him, he couldn't hit at Hagerstown, and he ain't played since.

The rest are all pitchers I think.  Lester, Corbin, Hand.

Ah, yeah, a newbie reliever and 2 starters who wouldn't pitch today.  I don't feel so bad missing them then.

That newbie reliever is our closer.   Harris out too with an injury, so the bullpen is going to start out pretty thin.

I've come to associate "closer" and "Nationals" with a rotating cast of semi-competence that then fades back into setup roles.

Hudson has done it before, and Rainey can take the 8th.  Suero had a good spring, and Finnegan is good.  I'm interested in Clay.  I don't want him in too high of a leverage situation, but it would be wonderful for him to be this year's Finnegan.

As for McGowin, he's another multi-inning guy in case Fedde or Voth have to start.

#Nationals roster moves:
- Reinstated Avila, Gomes, Hand, Mercer
- Optioned Barrera, Harper — added to Taxi Squad
- Optioned Kieboom to Alternate Training Site
- Returned Wilson to Alternate Training Site
- Placed Parra, Sanchez, McFarland on the Taxi Squad

Lucroy sticks around for now.

along with Garcia, Clay, McGowin, and Yadiel, it looks like.  So, Garcia and Mercer are the backup infielders, along with maybe Lucroy as a backup 1st baseman, and just one backup OF plus whoever sits among Gomes and Avila.  4 OFs, 7 IFs counting Lucroy, and 2 catchers.  8 man bullpen (Hand, Hudson, Rainey, Suero, Finegan, Clay, McGowin, Avilan).

So it looks like Ross - Voth - Scherzer for this series, barring Corbin or Lester coming off the DL.
