Mason Thompson (from the Hudson trade) is being activated today. No corresponding move as there was an open slot on the 26-man roster.

Really don’t want to see Parra with many more starts either.

Really excited to see Gray take the mound. It has been years since we called up a Starting Pitcher with this much potential.

I want to see Mason Thompson, Kieboom, Gray, Garcia, Donovan Casey, Barrera, Adams and Lane Thomas the rest of the way. Nothing against Parra, Rivera, Mercer, Avila and Sanchez, but let the young guys get their reps in please.

Josh Gray coming to the big league club
this makes a ton of sense.  I think he was already in the Doyers rotation filling in for either Kershaw or Bauer.

IS Adams MLB ready?

There's going to be a bit of blending of vets with youth the rest of the way, but I'd like to see (cringe) both Robles and Stevenson playing most of the time in LF and CF.  No issues with Parra, just he can do his mentoring on the bench as much as in the field.  My sense with him playing now instead of Vic is that Vic has been making non-instinctive pressing dumb plays lately (the bunts, the weird throws, losing the plate discipline that was the only good thing about his hitting this year, etc...) and Davey is playing Parra as well as Stevenson ahead of him most of the time for Vic to sit and learn.

Avila and Rivera both serve the same purpose - Crash Davis to a team of Nuke Laloushes.

Adams is SSS in the majors, and is hitting it hard in AAA.

Adams is who we're sending to San Diego in exchange for Eric Hosmer, Luis Campusano and Adrian Morjon. We'll then package Campusano, Kieboom, and aome lower level guys to the Indians for Ramirez. Long will fix Hosmer's swing and we'll win 100 games next season.

Rainey optioned down. At this point, I just assume Suero has incriminating pictures of Rizzo

Why the freak is Rene Rivera starting today? Ruiz and Adams are new. I get it.

If Martinez thinks Rivera is so much better than Reetz that he should be starting even in a lost season, then Reetz should retire right now.

Or Rainey has more options. They are probably looking to move on from Suero at year end so giving him some more chances.

It really does make zero sense to have Rivera out there instead of Reetz or Adams. I understand grooming Ruiz in AAA for a little while, but come on. Give Reetz a month and find out if he's worth keeping around.

Thats what they are doing with Adrian Sanchez and Hernandez. They should be doing it with Noll and Reetz

Tanner Rainey optioned to Rochester. Davey says they want him to pitch every other day to get back into shape before calling him up again

Nationals lineup today

CF V. Robles R
2B A. Sanchez R
RF Juan Soto L
1B Josh Bell S
LF Y. Hernandez L
3B C. Kieboom R
SS Luis Garcia L
C Tres Barrera R
P Josiah Gray R

I'm fine with that. Bell and Soto are obvious. Robles, Kieboom, Garcia, and Barrera are young. Hernandez, my recent adoration aside, does need some at bats to figure out if his success is SSS or if he has potential to be the left handed side of a reserve outfield platoon in 2022. I have my guesses how that would turn out, but I'll leave them to myself other than saying if he slumps again then let Palka come up and get some platoon starts.

Jake Noll is only 27, can field 5 positions, and continues to rake. Not sure why he isn't up here getting starts over Adrian Sanchez. Starting to think there is an issue fans wouldn't know about.

Lane Thomas should be up here getting ABs.

Factoring in arbitration raises and assuming we re-sign zimm for $1M, we’re sitting at around $105,000,000 for lux tax purposes next year.  Definitely going to assume we get up to around $130,000,000 -$140,000,000 filling out the roster.

so, 2 outs, Soto up, bottom of the 1st. I guess Davey is expecting Suarez to pitch a few innings as they stretch him out as a starter.  I'd be surprised if he goes much more than once through the order, but they may try to stretch him through Yadi the 2d time through.

We have $66.5MM locked in among Strasburg, Corbin, and Harris per Cot's.  We have 2 guys beyond Arb-1 - Soto at Arb-2 for a super 2, and Bell at Arb 3.  Soto is coming off $8.5MM, Bell $6.35MM.  Figure Soto maybe $12.5MM and Bell $8.5MM?  Get's us up to $87-88MM.  Your number sounds about right.

I could see us going above $140MM.  Figure a Charlie Morton type signing, plus a couple of Schwarber-priced position players to fill in around some kids. Maybe a veteran catcher to pair with Ruiz.  Maybe Hudson if he wants back, but no big closer buy if Finnegan looks reliable.  I think $160MM fields a competitive team that you can break up or add to, depending on whether things break badly or well.

I forgot Will Harris exists. If he can pitch at an acceptable level, should get us another top-30ish type prospect next year.

I also have almost 0 interest in bringing Zimm back. Short side of a platoon, can't start consistently if needed, old, only a 1B, etc. Just let him retire.

Remember labor fight coming.

I expect these next couple months will tell a lot about what the Nationals plan on doing in 2022. If the team is scrappy and young pieces show life, they may go for it. If we end the season with guys like Garcia and Ruiz scuffling at plate and young pitchers being less than special, I expect they pass on any major additions this offseason,

I had bell at $8M and Soto at $15M by my guestimation.  I figure if anyone can beast mode the arb system, it’s gotta be Soto.  We’re going to have a lot of guy making the minimum.  Leaves money to sign a starting caliber player, some relievers, and a SP and comfortable stay under $150,000,000.

My offseason wish list would be Chris Taylor for 3 years around $15M per, Harrison for 2 years at $5M per, Clippard for 1 year sub $3M, and the best starter we can get on a one year deal.

Also I doubt Taylor gets a QO form the dodgers.  They won’t want to risk him taking the $19M and screw their luxury tax kerfuffling
