This is crazy:

Dougherty:

Nationals roster moves …

Activated: Alcides Escobar, Tres Barrera, Yadiel Hernandez

To the IL: Kyle Schwarber, Alex Avila (bilateral calf strains)

DFA’d: Humberto Arteaga
Well Escobar is a major upgrade on Arteaga.  Ok, just making that up.

Well, Escobar was a regular for the WS champion Royals in 2015, and for a few years before and after.

Yadiel H. makes sense as a temporary replacement for Schwarber. Avila is hurt? Maybe from playing 2B?

Any idea about the Kieboom, Garcia, Adrian Sanchez? Garcia and Sanchez are both on the 7-day DL, but Kieboom is listed as "Active". What's wrong with those guys?

Its pretty embarressing that a guy is asked to play second base and gets hurt.

And strained both calves. Last time I squatted, the calf muscles were pretty important. Don't know how you could be a catcher in the majors and strain both calves subbing in at a position that requires LESS calf usage.

Kieboom has a knee injury. No word on severity but he hasn’t gone on the IL yet.

Is it certain he got hurt playing 2B? Bilateral calf strain sounds like a weight room or training injury.  The only time I can recall straining both calves was when one of my idiot friends bet me I couldn't win my age group in a 5K and I hadn't run in six months.  I, a bigger idiot, did it, but...ouch.

How do all these call-ups and the additional MLB salaries paid the our MiLB players impact the salary cap / luxury tax threshold?

Our injury situation right now is such a disaster.

There are not any good options. Even if Schwarber was healthy, the bench is a disaster, then pen is a MASH unit.

Can Starlin still play SS? Guessing not. I’d rather see Noll or Garcia up here on left side of infield with Castro than Escobar. He looks surprisingly good so far, but Escobar isn’t part of the future.

If Castro could still play SS, they wouldn't have done things like promote Arteaga for a single game or acquire Escobar.

I'd rather see Garcia at SS too, but he's hurt, and Noll can't play SS.

My son just texted to say that Fedde was activated today, plus a relief pitcher. Lobstein and another reliever sent down.

(Might be tood good to be true. Can't find it on the MLB.COM in Nats roster moves.)

Now moved Lester to the bullpen, telling him to go all out for two innings...no need to stretch and conserve energy.

I can't imagine Davey starting Lester again, though. His last three starts have been a horror movie.

That might be right, but he’s also not getting 5 more wins this year. If they’re serious about winning this year, he’ll be dfa’d when Stras gets back. Frankly, they could justify it now the way Espino has been pitching.

A lot of guys will struggle when they're brought in to face the middle of the order with two runners on.

They could bring back Lobstein. He was quite impressive.
