Or we could just trade Suero and keep Espino and Voth

Voth is not going anywhere.  I just don't believe fear of losing J-rod is going to keep him around when Espino has been effective.

I agree, except I don't know what team would want Suero and what the Nats would get back.

Honestly, the Rays, A's, or Astros would give you something. With their analytics, they would have Suero being one of the best relievers in about six weeks.

Is Parra going to be here the rest of the season or will he be sent back down. I am feeling 2019 tingles and for that reason alone I dont want him to go.

Most likely Parra sticks. If there is a roster squeeze, I think they'd send down Stevenson or maybe McGowin rather than Parra.

Stevenson is on the IL so Parra is basically his replacement. From a skill standpoint Stevenson is probably better. Definitely a better defender and better speed. Probably a better hitter.

But intangibles.

Are they carrying a 9 man bullpen now?  Hand, Rainey, Voth, Suero, Clay, McGowin, J-Rod, Espino, and Miller? I could easily see them go back to 8 and keep both Stevenson and Parra.  McGowin or Miller goes down when Hudson is back (or they waive J-Rod who I think is out of options), but then another one could go down to return to 8 men in the pen.

Right now, I think that 9 man bullpen needs to stay. We have a pretty subtantial stretch with no days off, IIRC. On top of that, Lester doesnt go deep. Ross and Fedde seem to be hit or miss. I'm still suspocious of Corbin. And I could see them not letting Scherzer go 110+ pitches. So I think we need a 9th reliever more than holding two outfield defensive replacements.

If 13-12 is the new norm without sticky stuff then we might need a couple 2 way bench players who can pitch!

Oh, it's going to stick at least until Stevenson is healthy.  It's an oblique, so that'll take a while.

Nats have placed Tanner Rainey on the IL with a stress reaction in his right tibia. Also have DFAd Justin Miller. Ryne Harper comes back up, and lefty Kyle Lobstein also joins the bullpen from Triple-A Rochester

I really feel bad for Miller. He was dominant at Rochester, but just fell apart once he came back to the Majors. Hopefully it's just psychological and he can work through it.

Lobestein is a 31 year old journeyman, but he has a 1.69 ERA in 16 games, 21.1 IP, 25Ks, 8BBs this year. He last pitched in the majors in 2016.

Dougherty reports the team is trying to figure out who they can call up. Cluff, Kieboom, Garcia, and Adrian Sanchez are all hurt.  I'd assume Noll comes up to cover 2B/3B.

Given that Noll isn't on the 40, I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign an itinerant IF who's floating around as an FA or in an Indy league right now and then cut him in a week.  Wilmer Difo himself isn't available, but there are usually a few such dudes out there at any time who are happy to take a week or two of MLB pay followed by a return to the wilds (think of the infielder version of the Lucroy deal).

I wonder if H. Perez is still around? He was cut early in the season and decisded to opt out.

Call Howie.

TalkNats floated that possibility this morning. I imagine the call would be something out of the Blues Brothers movie.  "Hey Howie, it's Mike, we're getting the band back together."

And then of course Rizzo calls Anibal Sanchez.

I hear Sanchez has this great gig as a maitre d.  Howie is working as a short order cook in his wife's lunch counter.

Nats select Humberto Arteaga from Rochester. He’s starting at shortstop tonight.

.227/.267/.309 with two homers in 29 games between AA and AAA. Last played in the majors in 2019 for KC.

Dougherty:

The Nationals are in the process of acquiring veteran shortstop Alcides Escobar from the Royals. Escobar is on his way to Washington with the team needing middle infield help. The 34-year-old last played in the majors in 2018.

The royals are the new diamondbacks

This is crazy:

Dougherty:

Nationals roster moves …

Activated: Alcides Escobar, Tres Barrera, Yadiel Hernandez

To the IL: Kyle Schwarber, Alex Avila (bilateral calf strains)

DFA’d: Humberto Arteaga
