Don't know if more has come out, bu the Dougherty tweet said Avila at least is expected to miss time.  Lucroy I think has also played 1st and maybe OF when his bat was still good.

I am happy with the pickup. Even in his declining years he has always struck me as a pesky hitter, good bat to have around in AAA or at the end of the bench.

Great postgame interview.  What a pro!  Find a place for him in this organization for him.

He did pretty good in ST for the White Sox, his only sin was having less upside than the younger catchers in camp who put up similar numbers to him. He's still got something in the tank and he also does not have COVID-19 which is a big plus in today's game.

Can't know until we know who else is broken by then.  Let's see how he handles the staff.

His pitch recognition and plate discipline on Opening Day were impressive. It is not difficult at all to imagine Lucroy winning the #1 catcher job.

I don’t know much about his defense but he has been a black hole offensively for several seasons. There is a reason he was available.

Compare Lucroy to Avila. Lucroy has been better in recent seasons: was bottom-of-mediocre in 2019, the last MLB season. Avila was last decent in 2017.

Not sure what you are referring to?  Avila had an OPS+ of 100 in 2019. Lucroy has not been at that level since 2017.  Aren’t Avila and Gomes considered better defensively than Lucroy?

Avila is a TTO guy. HRs, walks for a decent OBP, Ks a lot.

Dude was on his couch a week ago and now he’s catching Major League pitching. I feel like we should be giving the guy a break for the first couple of games.

I mean, he did have a full spring training with Chicago.  But it was a bit tongue-in-cheek: catching a full staff of guys who still have early-season command issues isn't great, but it's even harder when you haven't caught the guys before.

He pretty much had a full spring training though. It seems in recent years he has transformed from a power hitter into a Punch and Judy hitter.  I think they will roll with Gomes and Avila. If Lucroy wants to stick around not sure what type contract he has and if he would want to go to Rochester?

just a guess - they find a way to get him 10 years of service time before they try any move.

He was at 164 coming in and has at least 2 down now, so that's not long.  No idea when the other two are back, but Barrera has options so he probably goes down first anyway.

Assuming they don’t cut him before the end of the road trip he will be good. He needs 172 for a full year.  And seriously if they really need his spot, just throw him in the 10 day DL.
