I feel bad because he had so much potential. I went to his MLB debut and, the masterpiece one hitter he pitched against the Cardinals (IIRC) as well as the no-hitter he threw against the Marlins in 2014 (I literally decided at the last minute to buy $5 tickets for that game - best $5 I ever spent). It was sad to see his career fizzle out and never recover.

Best of luck, JZ.

I talked to a couple who hosted PNats players at their home over the years. They said JZ was the nicest young man.

Souza's diving catch to seal JZ's no-hitter was one of the best Nats moments - the place went apecrap

:hysterical: I was thinking the Nats ring of fame, maybe they could replace Pudge, who has no business being in the ring, with JZ?

I think he had a really good career, regardless of how it ended.  I did get to see him in a start with Detroit out in Oakland when I lived out there.  It was him and Edwin Jackson, who both pitched well that day.  Zimmermann was one of my favorite Nats.  While I'm glad they didn't re-sign him because of how his pitching went bad, he earned that contract fair and square and he seemed like a really good guy.  The two-start span of the no-hitter and the playoff start where Standard Decision and Storen flushed a masterpiece down the toilet might have been the best back-to-back pair of starts I can recall, and I was there for both of them.

Happy retirement, JZ.

JZ was the first Nat who was a favorite of mine.  I think I started the Extennd Zimmermann thread after his first start back from TJ.  I was at his debut, too.  It's too bad his career ended up going :hang: after the first month in Detroit.  I think it was an injury that was unrelated to TJ that ended up messing him up and he never could recover his motion and stuff.

One of my work colleagues developed what would become a fatal condition late summer 2014 and passed away in early 2015.  The Nats was something he bonded with his daughter over.  I remember visiting him in his care facility December or so.  He could not really speak at that point but could listen and still had a sharp mind.  So, trying to talk about stuff he was interested in to pass the time, I brought up some of the moves the Nats might be doing, including possibly dealing JZ going into the last year of his contract (or maybe he was already a FA).  At any rate, when I said they might not be bringing JZ back, my friend looked at me and said "Not ... Zimmermann . . .  no hitter."

I still have my Livo light switch cover in the home office.  Looks like he's throwing a 34 mph antimatter heater with a mouthful of Morton's

It's been odd seeing all of these Giolito "comeback kid" ads.

Giolito has given up 5.  Also forgot cover first on a double play ball.

ERA: 4.54
FIP: 4.14
WHIP: 1.29

That ad features Giolito in a generic uniform/cap, so it's all him.

Ironically, it might be Adam Eaton who drags that team down this year.
