For some reason, I think a man with over $15 million in career earnings and a World Series ring probably isn't going to be too bothered about what some random jerk on the internet thinks about his waistline.

Honestly, once he passes through waivers and Toronto's on the hook for that salary, I'd sign him. He's no worse an option than the other ass-end starters and he'd be on the minimum. If nothing else, it means you don't have to keep an unused starter on the MLB roster just for fear of losing him.

He's one of the main reasons the Nats didn't make the post season in 2018. He was nothing more than an innings eater in 2017. Gio retired (thankfully) and Roark should follow right behind him.

He had an ERA of 4.34 in 2018 and made 30 starts. He was fourth on the team in WAR. Most teams would kill for that out of a #4 starter, which he was.

The problem with the starting pitching on that team was that Strasburg and Hellickson both got hurt and that there was nobody behind them, resulting in a not-ready Fedde pitching too much. Then there was the horrendous bullpen, Murphy and Kendrick getting hurt, the black hole of Wieters behind the plate, and giving 450+ plate appearances to Wilmer Difo and nearly 400 to MAT. With all that, that team was lucky to finish above .500 and only did so because of Soto's arrival and emergence.

It hit in the inside of the knee right behind the kneecap. It looked really painful.

apparently the ball hit his wrist after hitting his face, causing a contusion, he's expected back this weekend if not tonight.

I'm watching the White Sox - Royals game on MLB.tv right now and Jason Benetti, the White Sox TV play-by-play guy, used to do play-by-play for the Syracuse Chiefs. He says that when he was in Syracuse he once saw then minor-leaguer Michael A. Taylor play table tennis and he was incredible. Good enough to go pro in that, Benetti thought.

I think he was traded while in the minors, but Nic Pivetta is putting together a very nice year. 4-0, 3.23 ERA / 3.33 FIP, 33Ks in 30 innings. Still walking guys (19), and a little lucky on homers until today (allowed his 2d todya).

Not good enough to make a Major League roster. Blue Jays got fleeced.

When you're with the same team for six years, the fans were happy to see you go, that team wins the World Series the year after you leave, you get a good contract with another team and fall flat on your face, then can't get a Major League deal after being discarded, it's time to retire with a modicum of dignity.

I posted this story before - back in 2010 when he was in Potomac rehabbing from TJ, my kids and I got to participate in a Scout day at the Pfitz. My son, then 10, brought his JZ card hoping to get an autograph, but JZ didn't sign any autographs after his warmup tosses.

Before the game, we participated in a Scout parade from the RF gate to the area behind home plate, where Scouts got to hold the American flag for the national anthem. As we walked by the dugout during the parade, my son spots JZ in the dugout and breaks out of the parade line to run over to JZ to ask him for his autograph. I ran after my son and apologized to Zimmermann who was cracking up. I think he was surprised that anyone knew who he was at that point as he had only had minimal major league experience.

He signed my son's card and hat, shook his hand, and fortunately didn't have us ejected from the ballpark. He couldn't have been any nicer.
