Trevor Rosenthal gets a one-year, $11 million deal from the A's, pretty amazing comeback for him.

I have a hard time squaring a team paying $11 million for a reliever when they wouldn't pay $7 million more to keep a starting shortstop instead of the giant hole they have there or 3/18 to fill the giant hole they have.  I realize Semien and La Stella aren't God's gift to infielding, but they made the playoffs with those dudes last year and now they're paying the majority of the salary they saved for a 1-inning reliever?

Rosenthal seems anything but a sure thing given his track record.

For the 2nd year in a row. You wonder if he'll be able to come back next year after taking off 2 years at which point he'll be 36.

Ali Modami joins the angles as the LH batting practice pitcher (same role he had here from 2012-2019 (he opted out in 2020)). He was the big guy who always seemed to be on camera behind the manager during games and who often gave piggy back rides through the dugout to guys who hit a home run. He seemed to be beloved by the players. Dougherty says he lives in AZ and wanted to be closer to home.

Here’s a story about him from 2019

He says he’d rather be with his family. Sounds like he’s already retired but is t ready to completely walk away. He’s walked away from $13.5 million so far.

I guess we'll find out soon enough if he has anything left in the tank.

He's had ERAs under 3 the past two years.  Dude bounces around, but he gets people out.

I have the Rays game on the local channel. Goodwin and Difo the first two hitters for the Pirates. Might be a long year for them.

I didn’t know Dozier retired.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/03/05/brian-dozier-spanish-baseball/

I'm not sure he retired as much as 30 teams collectively retired him.

Jerry Blevins is trying to make the Mets roster.

https://empiresportsmedia.com/new-york-mets/new-york-mets-jerry-blevins-is-aiming-for-one-of-the-last-bullpen-spots/

I have an irrational dislike of Jerry Blevins, but I was really hoping that either the 3-batter rule or his absurdly long neck would end his pathetic continued participation in MLB.

so you are saying Jerry Blevins is to you what Matt Patricia is to VaRK?  Or are you you saying he is like Trent Frederic is to Ovi and you want to take a stick to his . . .?

I'm saying that if the 3-batter rule had existed in 2012, he'd never have made it above AA.  Guys like him are like the small children who play hockey during intermissions.  Sure, that's nice, you had fun.  Now GTF off the ice so people who are actually good at the sport can play; hopefully you'll grow up, get better, and be able to hold your own someday.
