Thanks...

There aren't enough puke emojis in the world to cover that one.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/05/felipe-vazquez-convicted-on-fifteen-sexual-assault-counts-in-pennsylvania.html

From The Athletic:

Quote
Former MLB pitcher Felipe Vázquez was found guilty of 15 counts of sexual misconduct in Pennsylvania on Thursday, according to multiple reports.

Among the charges Vázquez was found guilty of were statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and indecent assault. Vázquez, 29, was found not guilty on 10 charges of unlawful contact or communication with a minor.

In September 2019, Vázquez was charged with sex crimes against minors in Florida and Pennsylvania. Vázquez, who last played in 2019, played for Washington and Pittsburgh and was a two-time All-Star with the Pirates.

some might call it that.  Position player gave up a dinger. La Russa is annoyed. Made it 20-1.

Anthony Rendon languishing in Anaheim.  Such a shame things couldn't get worked out here.

I’m sure the money soothes his soul.

At 19-23 the Nats seem to be languishing also.

How the heck do the angels have a -51 run differential?

Bad pitching? Didn’t figure out how to clone Ohtani?

We need to trade back for Rendon and get the angels to eat some of his salary.

Or take back all of Rendon's salary. As best I remember, the difference between what the Nats offered and what the Angels offered was in deferred money. It's clear (to me, of course) that the Lerners could have afforded both Rendon and Strasburg. The team has a giant whirlpool where Rendon used to hit and field.

Ah, of course that's a dream...

That would put them over the luxury tax threshold I believe. Luxury tax salary is based on AAV and not the cash salary. Both Strasburg and Rendon are at about $35 million a year AAV.

The luxury tax is not a big deal.

Not to you and me,  But to the Lerners and most others it is.  They will not exceed it.

That's the point.  If we had Rendon, he and the Nats would likely not be languishing.

Yeah. Maybe. He’s been hurt much of the year and not hitting. Maybe the Lerner’s shouldn’t have signed him OR Strasburg.

The luxury tax is not a big deal.
It is, and it isn't.   Going over by a little isn't much of a charge.  But if you let your payroll grow to be over it, then you are in luxury tax hell and it makes re-signing Turner, Soto or a free agent pitcher prohibitively expensive.

These mega deal for free agent aged players rarely make sense for building a winning team.   It would be nice if they could get creative in the next CBA to creative more incentive for the player and team to sign their team controlled players.   If we could say offer Soto an 8x$40m contract without the team controlled years counting against the luxury tax, that might bring the two sides together on a deal that makes sense.

He's been awful this year after the hot start: .200   .308   .348 on the season, .189   .295   .349 excluding his first 7 games.

And thank you Nats...although I'd rather have some Sean Doolittle than Mr. Rainey.
