Boof Bonser (4-2, 4.12 ERA) will look to help the Twins avoid the sweep in his first start against the Nationals. He allowed six runs and 12 hits - including two homers - in Monday's 16-3 road loss to the Los Angeles Angels , ending a four-start winning streak.
Bonser, who lost for the first time since April 10 against the New York Yankees , had given up just two homers in his previous seven starts.
Washington will counter with Mike Bacsik (1-2, 4.13), who is coming off his first rocky outing of the season, Tuesday's 7-6 loss to Pittsburgh in which he gave up six runs in 4 1-3 innings. Bacsik, who is pitching in the majors for the first time since 2004, had allowed just seven total runs in 19 2-3 innings in his first three starts since being called up from Triple-A to help out an injury-plagued rotation, but was battling a stomachache on Tuesday.
"I was just physically fighting through not feeling good, so energy and focus were just lacking," he said. "I feel like I'm making an excuse and I don't want to be. I took the ball. I said I was good enough to go, and I went out there and I didn't do a good job."
