if Jefry Rodriguez isn't available, then Strasburg can take some load off Voth

"Lengthen" Voth back to a starter. Nobody knows when Strasburg can return, but likely not before the all-star break. If the end of the rotation is either Espino or Ross or Voth, I'd pick Voth over Ross.

No. Voth is actually doing well as a reliever. The Nats told him to prepare for this season like he was a reliever. He's having success, don't freak with it now.

at most, he can do an "opener" schtick for 1 time through the order if needed. But we don't have a lefty to back him up other than Clay

Voth is Craig Stammen.

And I still like Craig Stammen.

This is a great idea, sort of like David Price.  It's disruptive to the rotation to have him coming and going.   He's incredibly fragile and getting older, and you can't keep thrashing the rotation like this.

I was joking. I guess maybe you could do it this year, but you cant pay a dude 35 million a year to be a bullpen arm. And I really dont think Stras can do it

It's a sunk cost.  We are already on the hook for the money.  If he has to become a closer, so be it.

I would think it is harder on your body to be a closer having to start up on short notice every day or two than a starter who has days to prepare.   They seem a rather disposable commodity.

Relievers, yes. Closers, no. There is more regularity withba closer. You know you wont be coming in until the 8th at the earliest.

But I honestly think that Stras would he a disaster as a reliever, simply because he's such a creature of habit

Lester? Was it a retreat back to ineffectiveness, or just a bad start?

I think Fedde and Ross should continue to start...hopefully to the end of the season.

I think Lester is at a point in his career where it’s going to swing pretty wildly between good and bad. He’s still good enough that when he’s on, he’s really effective, but his stuff has diminished to a point that when he’s not we get last night. Given his experience that’s still valuable on this roster when the top 3 are doing what they are supposed to do, but when they’re not, it’s pretty rough.

He had a 2.55 era in his previous five starts. He’s fine for a #4

Tough morning news for the Nats, as Erick Fedde lands on the IL with an oblique strain. Fedde was scheduled to start tomorrow vs. Mets. Reliever Andres Machado comes up to add bullpen depth for now.

Guessing Espino starts tomorrow.

Davey said post-game that they are leaning towards a bullpen game, but that probably means as much of Espino and McGowin as the can do.  J Rod.  Sort of like Friday night.

Lester has been clobbered early in each of his last three starts. It is a choice between Lester and Espino now that Fedde is back. Espino looks much better.

Neither throws hard. Maybe it is an issue with grip, but Espino seems to have better control on his breaking pitches. Maybe Espino has a better replacement for Spider Tack than whatever Lester is trying. Maybe the two should be paired in an opener / middle reliever combo? Let Espino start and go four or five innings. Then bring in Lester for three.

I think that may be a mistake?  Thought they said Corbin was due up.
