Sir David Amess (69) - Member Of Parliament (MP) for Southend West. Murdered whilst holding a constituency surgery, yesterday afternoon, in what police are now describing as an 'incident of Islamic terrorism'.

A direct attack upon our democratic process, and our democracy.

And a few years after some knuckledragging gap-toothed white power git killed MP Jo Cox at a constituency surgery.  Political violence at the retail level is getting quite common on both sides of the Atlantic.

Sad to hear.  Hard to think of him as 84, but that pegs him as around early 50s at the time of Desert Storm.  Losing some large figures lately.

...despite being fully vaccinated (https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/colin-powell-dead/2021/10/18/fdc71fde-c5db-11df-94e1-c5afa35a9e59_story.html).
I wonder if he had been boosted.  Probably not since the approvals weren't that long ago.  9/22 for Pfizer, or a month ago.  Hard to have gotten it, had it kick into effect, contract an infection, and have it progress to death in less than a month. Certainly not if he got Moderna.

Probably got the vaccine early on at his age and it’s wearing off. I read that Covid was the second leading cause of death in September for 45 to 54 year olds?  However still mostly a risk for seniors.  Hopefully it will keep going down and new variants will be weaker.

He was 84, it is likely he had other underlying health conditions.

A really good person and patriot. I saw him at a Nats game years ago sitting on the third base line . I greeted him when he walked up the aisle next to my section. Not many like him in the public sector any longer. RIP.

Powell lived right around the corner from our house in EPWC.  Before we moved in.  And his kids went to my kids' elementary school.

Yes, not many left like him.

yes.  Phil Bump in the WaPo had an interesting take on that aspect.  I'll skip the link here as it belongs elsewhere ;)
