darn. He's likeable, had some good moments, but he's not the type you pay a year to rehab based on projected value in the future. I'll guess release and re-sign FG or smal money, maybe a 2 way deal. Aaron Barrett type of situation

people try to use Platelet rich plasma injections and work through some partial tears, but I can't think of it working very often

From MLB.COM:

SS Alcides Escobar (inside left knee contusion)

Expected return: TBD

Escobar fouled a ball off his left knee and exited the game during the first inning of the Nationals’ series opener against the Phillies on Aug. 30. He swung at a pitch from Zack Wheeler and fell to the ground upon contact. X-rays were negative. Escobar has stepped into the starting shortstop role since the Trade Deadline, and he is coming off a 10-game hitting streak. (Last updated: Aug. 30)

bummer. I really loved the story of a guy who spent a lot of time in the minors becoming an effective major league reliever. The danger of being a 1 pitch pitcher and having the pitch be a slider

Maria Flores, The Athletic, on Ruiz.

Quote
Catcher Keibert Ruiz, who is 3-for-21 since his promotion last Monday, ran well in pregame drills Tuesday afternoon. He was out of the starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game because of a contusion he sustained when he fouled a ball off his knee during Saturday’s doubleheader split with the Mets. Martinez said some of the swelling in Ruiz’s knee receded. Whether Ruiz returns to the lineup Wednesday will depend on how he feels squatting behind the plate. Ruiz pinch-hit for Paolo Espino in the sixth inning and popped out.

A little more on Joe Ross:

Quote
RHP Joe Ross (partial UCL tear in right elbow)
Expected return: Spring Training 2022
Ross is out for the rest of the 2021 season, but he is not expected to require surgery for a partial tear of his right elbow ulnar collateral ligament.

He has been with the team at Nationals Park, where he has been focusing on lower half and core work.

“He’s staying positive, which is good,” manager Dave Martinez said. “He’s still going to be shut down, but hopefully he’ll start throwing here fairly soon and then we’ll build him up this winter.”(Last updated: Sept. 3)

Baby Shark:

OF Gerardo Parra (right knee inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Parra had been experiencing discomfort in his right knee -- the same one he had undergone surgery on last fall -- and he couldn’t stay on his legs well while hitting. The Nationals decided it would be best for him to rest and then see how he feels after a 10-day stint on the injured list.

“I talked to him a little bit, and I know he thinks he wants to play another year,” manager Dave Martinez said. “I always tell him, ‘If you feel that way, don’t give up that uniform. Let them take it off you.’ ... I would love for him to come back and still have the opportunity to finish up strong here. He meant a lot to this organization over the years.” (Last updated: Sept. 5)

Jordy Mercer begins rehab assignment:

Quote
INF Jordy Mercer (left calf strain)
Expected return: September
Mercer began a rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Harrisburg on Sept. 8, going 2-for-3 while playing both second and third base. He is slated to serve as the Senators’ designated hitter on Sept. 9, “and then we’ll see how he feels after that” according to manager Dave Martinez. (Last updated: Sept. 8)

Ruiz, from MLB.Com:

Quote
Keibert Ruiz (HBP in helmet)
Keibert Ruiz exited the Nats' Sept. 11 game against the Pirates in the sixth inning after being struck in the helmet with a pitch. X-rays came back negative.

“He’s got a slight headache, which I’m glad that’s all he has,” said manager Dave Martinez. (Last updated: Sept. 11)
