Why, to the extent there may have ever been a "choice" between Strasburg, Harper and Rendon, I'd always opt for an everyday player. (I understand it may have been, with those specific players, that they may not have particularly wanted to stay.) Whatever the case, it's been clear for a long time how much Rizzo "favors" pitching.
I look at the O's 11th Round pick in 2014, John Means, and see a starting pitcher who's earning very little and may be significantly better than many high-paid starters, including at least one on our staff. Even more likely to find similar "finds" among relievers throughout the game.
