Parra had been experiencing discomfort in his right knee -- the same one he had undergone surgery on last fall -- and he couldn’t stay on his legs well while hitting. The Nationals decided it would be best for him to rest and then see how he feels after a 10-day stint on the injured list.

“I talked to him a little bit, and I know he thinks he wants to play another year,” manager Dave Martinez said. “I always tell him, ‘If you feel that way, don’t give up that uniform. Let them take it off you.’ ... I would love for him to come back and still have the opportunity to finish up strong here. He meant a lot to this organization over the years.” (Last updated: Sept. 5)
