Why am I liking the phrase "the pick is in" at 13 and 14 rather than "there's a trade?"

Whoop...there it is!

Terrible pick.   One year starter at Kentucky.   Unreal.   We are the worst drafting team in the NFL

We will see how he does playing without those other first round picks.  On the other hand if the Bears picked Fields over Jones that seems a sure fire indicator Jones will be a star.

I think it is fair to say, at least relative to the competition, Alabama had much more skilled wideouts than the Patriots.  The Pats signed some good tight ends and have decent running backs, so I'm not going to fall into saying mediocre pros are worse than good college players, but there's no way the Pats wide receivers and slot guys (post-Edelman) compare well to the Alabama receivers.

Most of the analysis I saw last night said that Fields and Jones were decent picks at where they went, but there are some big question marks surrounding both. Fields at least should get a year before he needs to start (unless Dalton gets hurt). Jones might be thrown into the mix more quickly. There are some concerns that Jones isn't quick enough for the NFL game but we'll see.

I'm most intrigued by Trey Lance, I know he was great in the FCS, but the FCS talent level is nowhere near that of the FBS. Other than Carson Wentz, I can't think of a FCS QB who had success in the NFL.

do you call Romo and Garropolo successful?

Romo definitely, Garropolo has had some but has been pretty inconsistent (and he's why the niners picked Lance). I also missed Flacco and Rich Gannon (both played at Delaware, Flacco went to the FCS title game), Steve McNair (Alcorn State), Fitzmagic (Harvard), Phil Simms(Moorehead State) and of course Kurt Warner (Northern Iowa). Josh McCown had some success as well (Sam Houston State).

given the lack of FCS QBs taken, I wonder if the success rates of the ones actually taken are actually better than FBS QBs

The fact that Zach Wilson was taken substantially before Justin Fields is mind-blowing to me. Fields was awesome consistently for an elite program and just played awesome in the CFB, while hurt!

Last 4 OSU QBs drafted: Haskins, Cardale Jones, Terrelle Pryor, Troy Smith. I assume there's some wariness among GMs to go to the OSU well again.

I think the TE that Atlanta took (Kyle Pitts) is going to end up being the steal of the draft.

Fields is a lot better than those turds. Like, a lot better. Haskins was basically a guaranteed bust because he's been a moron since HS and the other never projected to be good. Not even close. Fields got dragged for "character issues" by management teams that use rock-paper-scissors to decide how competitive a kid is.

Then again NFL GMs are by far the dumbest of the big four sports so it seems to make sense. Just the cavemen of the sports world.

I see Fields as another one of those really good college QB's.  I will be shocked if he can up his game to an NFL level, especially in the Bears organization.  This is just another failure waiting to happen...
