I didn’t see this coming at this price. I felt he would sign at the same amount he did last year. My apologies to JCA. Not sure why he would do it as he doesn’t need the money and the physical toll of a 162 plus game season just doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe he just needs to get out of the house with three young kids. 😂

Good decision by both the Nats and The Face.

Will be nice for him to have a retirement tour/victory lap in 2021.

I'm guessing his body feels good, he still has fun playing, and he wanted to call when he goes out.  It's really not a money thing, and I think he knows that as a whole, he's been well-paid for his career.  He's never going to be able to play competitively again after he retires, at least at the level he's at now, so he probably wants to leave with no doubts.  Now, if he starts the season 10 for 75 and his shoulder aches, then maybe he packs it in in May or June, but if he feels good and productive, he'll be happy.

Q for me becomes, if the NL uses a DH, is the regular line up Bell at DH and RZ at 1st, with SWLABR every day in left?  That would give the Nats a second nice righty threat beyond Turner and balance Soto / Schwarber / Bell (who hits like a lefty).

I think anyone in the 10/5 category does.

Bell hits significantly better lefthanded.  I think a Zimmerman/Bell platoon should be considered.  That would give Zimm plenty of rest.

This is perfect for Zimm and the Nats. He's content to play part time and get the matchups that favor him. 36 is not ancient for a part time player. Glad he's back.

I would love it for him to get 30 more HRs over the next couple of years to give him 300.  That's a major milestone.  When you think next year might have the DH, it's not too crazy.

I agree. If he really takes to the platoon/DH/PH/Def Sub. role, he might have a handful of years left.

Best news I have heard in a while.  This made my weekend...especially needed considering the passing of Hank Aaron.

They're keeping him fresh and healthy.

Give him 16 or 17 starts in a three week period and you'll start to see him decline.

Plus when he pinch hits, he gets a huge ovation now.

If he's not going to start more, I'd like to see him replace Bell more in later innings to get some ABs against the lefties brought in for Soto, and as a defensive replacement.

I like the idea, but it would work only if you move Bell up in the order, and until he starts hitting better I don't think they'll do that.
