I watched that match. It was a massacre.

I've been watching something called the Madison (I think) for over 30 minutes and have no idea what's going on.
It's pretty cool.  It was originally contested in the old Madison Square Garden.  It's more or less tag team racing.  one racer takes the long pull up front while the teammate drafts, then they tag and throw the fast finisher forward to sprint.  The Brits used to have a killer team with a guy who eventually won the TdF doing the pulling and the greatest sprinter of all time finishing things off.

I've seen the tag and throw but haven't noticed much drafting. The crashes are epic though.

I see a lot of strategy but can't get a handle on it. :?

I’m watching Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosuars. Grandkids took over the tv.

Quote
Denmark pair Michael Mørkøv and Lasse Norman Hansen won a tense, high-speed and crash-hit men’s Madison to take the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The pair rode a calculated race, making efforts to take points when possible and responding to major attacks from France and Belgium.

Denmark carefully scored a total of 43 points, winning some sprints and cleverly placing in others during the 200-lap and 20 sprint race.
Morkov is supposed to be the best guy at positioning in a sprint.  In a road race, he usually has a faster guy draft off of him after he leads out close to the finish line.

So I think that the women’s performance relative to the men’s at the Olympics. I think it’s all Title IX.

Yep. Title IX forces colleges to match football scholarships with an equal number in women’s sports. Although, to be fair, most of the swimmers seem to go to Stanford which heavily recruits for Olympic sports and probably would regardless of title IX

Title IX doesn't just benefit American women...there are athletes representing pretty much the whole globe who compete/d in the NCAA.  Including at least half of the Canadian womens footie team.

USA women win basketball as expected. USA women win their first ever gold in volleyball. Kudos to the ladies.

USA ends up with most golds due to an upset in the last women's track cycling event, taking gold in the omnium. That's sort of a medley event on track, with 4 styles of races over a day.

volleyball was the final gold medal for the US to break the tie. They destroyed Brazil! Very happy for those ladies

Well, most folks thought we only had a shot at 2 last day golds. Hoops not winning would have been a big upset, while volleyball was a coin flip. The omnium winner was completely off the radar and a  no one had her winning.

So, as the Tokyo Games draw to a close, I hope that Monkey Tennis can still be a late inclusion for Paris 2024. :D

Not a bad games all round, for both Team USA and Team GB.

Good review of the Games from Dan Roan (Editor of BBC Sport online), albeit with a GB slant. Apologies if any embedded videos don't work with non-UK IP address.
