Be much more interesting if they had spear fishing simultaneously with swimming

Or if sharks were in the pool

So the quarterfinals are underway in men’s field hockey. Germany shutting out Argentina 2-0 going into the last quarter. I will use the excuse that I have had the tv sound down but has taken me a week to realize that you are not allowed to move or stop the ball with your foot or I presume any part of your body.  Or hit the ball with the rounded side of the stick.

EDIT. Other than the goalie that is.

My money is on the Belgians to take the gold.
Germany marches on (is that ok PC wise?).
Australia who seem to be one of the favorites now take a 2-1 lead over Netherlands in the third.  Good game.

Had my nap earlier and ready to watch Rui take on the Argentines.

Netherlands tie it up on a penalty.  10 minutes left.  This might cut into basketball time.  Not sure what they do if tied?

Depends on the opponent. The Brits and Canadians don't think much of it. The Dutch, Poles, different matter. The Austrians? They say, "hey we'll join you "

So an Italian is the worlds fastest human. And to make that even crazier he was born in Texas.

OK, the semis are set for men's field hockey.  Germany takes on the Aussies.  And World Champ Belgium takes on India.  First time for India in the semis since the 1972 games.  That surprised me.  I had assumed they and Pakistan dominated this sport.

Always loved the 800M races since Dave Wottle.  Althing Mu is really something.  She won easily.  Apparently she might also be on the 4x400 relay team.

In both the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles a person beat the existing world record by a wide margin and still got smoked.

Imagine running the race of your life, or actually the best race in history and then get walked down by someone else. Brutal.

not their first gold of the Olympics.  Men's cycling time trial.   Slovenia has arguably the 2 best road cyclists in the world, at least for multiple day races.

Slovenia is pretty much a sports superpower for having only 2 million people.  Ditto Croatia.

Actually, the old Yugoslavia had some kick-butt sports teams.  Serbia and Croatia, then add in Slovenia, Bosnia, Montenegro, plus Kosovo (part of Serbia).  Put all those together, and that's competitive with the tier below US/China/ :PUTIN!:  Of course, put the USSR back together . . .

USA men’s basketball takes on Australia at about 12:30 am. Semifinal.

USA men’s baseball takes on South Korea Thursday 6:00 am. If they win they play Japan for the Gold. Lose and play the DR for the bronze. Not bad as MLB allowed no players from 40’man MLB rosters.

USA women’s volleyball takes on Serbia tomorrow midnight in the semis.

USA doing great in the field events. Win the women’s pole vault and gold and silver in men’s shot put.

USA men’s basketball makes the final to meet France. Did not see the game but they overcame a big deficit and won going away. Saw the end of France and Slovenia. Was surprised that pros could be so undisciplined to get technical fouls near the end of a crucial game. Batum saved the day for France with a block.

USA baseball makes the gold medal game. USA women’s water polo also make the gold medal match.
