2021 Summer Olympics: To be or not to be?

Article says the Japanese government has concluded it won’t be possible to hold the Olympics in 2022.

I hope they can make it happen. I know that I personally had my spirits raised in 2020 by the fact that MLB, NFL, and NCAA football all found a way to operate during the pandemic, and I think that having a successful Olympics would raise the spirits of billions and be an important symbolic victory against the virus.

the awesome thing about the olympics is every country participating. Even if things are under control in developed nations by 2022, most undeveloped nations still won't be getting vaccines in any quantity by then and I don't expect Japan to welcome unvaccinated delegations

They really ought to swap Olympics with Beijing - Japan can host the Winter Olympics as scheduled in Feb 2022 (way better ski runs and snow cover anyways, not to mention air quality) and then send the summer games to China in July when the winter smog is gone. 

Plus, having the winter games in China during lunar new year does not seem like a good idea.
