Actually, the old Yugoslavia had some kick-butt sports teams. Serbia and Croatia, then add in Slovenia, Bosnia, Montenegro, plus Kosovo (part of Serbia). Put all those together, and that's competitive with the tier below US/China/
Of course, put the USSR back together . . .
