so it is Johnny who was brought in to fake Ronnie?
Yeah, Johnny has been the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd for a while now. If you've never hear Brickhouse Road, it's a great song (and terribly depressing as it's a tribute from Johnny to Ronnie).
I saw LS in 2019 at a corporate gig in California. There were maybe 2,000 people in a big parking lot and I was able to get up to the stage. They are pretty much a cover band now as Gary Rossington is the only one left from the glory days, though Ricky Medlocke has been with them for a long time.
They played Freebird as the second encore / final song of course. After Johnny sung the first verse, he grabbed what appeared to be Ronnie's hat from the drum riser and put it on a microphone stand at the edge of the stage. He then waved to the crowd and walked off. Behind him they displayed the names of all the members of the band who had died.
The second verse was a video of Ronnie, with his vocals being accompanied by the live band. It was incredibly emotional and something I'll never forget. I'd see them again in a heartbeat.
I found a crappy YouTube clip from 2019 of another performance in which they did the sam thing:
