Listened to the new Styx album yesterday. Awful except for the title track, which was ok. Disappointing given that their previous album was pretty good.

Tommy Shaw is 67. James Young is 72. They are the only full-timers left from the glory days of the 1980s.  Chuck Panozzo still plays some bass in the studio and occasionally shows up when they play live. Dennis DeYoung is long gone.  We saw them live in 2018 and enjoyed the show (they opened for REO Speedwagon).

I was actually at this concert. Twenty-five years later, someone uploads this to YouTube. Several more years later, I stumble across it.

I was exaggerating.  Just a bit.  Rock and roll will never die.

well, now most of the bands are 1-2 originals and a bunch of replacements, in 20 years they will be kids of the originals.  There's not much of a difference between the band using the original name and a cover / tribute band anymore.

Wolfgang Van Halen's band just released an album a few weeks ago and is opening for GnR this summer, so there is still hope that somewhere out there a new rock band will emerge.

Then again, Sammy Hagar still has at least another 30 years left him in him.

Yea. I saw Kansas a couple of years ago. Only two of the originals. Singer was good but no Steve Walsh.

I watched the full film the other day on YouTube but now cannot find it there (for free anyway).  Highly recommend.  Here is the trailer.

just discovered that Tweeter and the Monkey Man by the Traveling Wilburys was essentially a homage to Bruce Springsteen, they included about a dozen Springsteen song titles in the lyrics.  Petty says that after Dillon came up with the idea of the title and that the song would about a mob story in Jersey, he jokingly suggested that they incorporate Springsteen song titles, and the rest is history.

I never really got into Slayer, but their work with other bands is outstanding.

Of note are their many collaborations with Wham!, such as this classic:

Good choice - although, to anyone under 21 at the time, the OGWT was known as the Old Dead Squirrel Test... :D

Actually, I like to imagine the massed ranks of the Slaytanic Werhmacht singing along to 'Hot Diggity, Dog Ziggity...' ;)
