Amidst all of the restaurants in desanctified churches

I once met someone (through work) who coveted the Britannia Stadium (Stoke's ground), but not for soccer - he wanted to evict City and use the Britannia for large evangelical church services. Why the Brittania, in particular, and how Stoke would react to being thrown out of their own stadium was never quite explained.... :?

Sat through France labouring to a 1 - 1 draw with Bosnia, yesterday. The scoreline flatters the Bosnians - their goal was gifted to them, by casual French defence, but once France were reduced to 10 men, they couldn't break down the Bosnians. Have to do better against Ukraine, on Saturday....

Ok. I looked it up and Andorra has double the population. 77,000 approximately.

'04 Euro champions Greece lost not one, but two UEFA qualifiers to Faeroe Islands.  I look forward to San Marino beating Italy or Gibraltar beating Spain or England one of these years

But San Marino are consistently last in the FIFA World Rankings...

Actually, my under-dog team of choice, at the moment, are Nepal - watched them playing Australia; Nepal were so disorganised it was hilariously good (if you see what I mean). Go Nepal!!! :D

We visited San Marino a few years ago. Definitely worth seeing if you can.

Not since 1998 - the race did start there in 1965.

I must admit to rather liking the current US 'Stars & Stripes' home shirt - in fact, there's one in my wardrobe... ;)  Something of a surprise, as Nike have a terrible reputation for European team shirt designs. The current France shirt is OK, but then it does owe rather a lot to some classic Adidas designs...

England 4 - Andorra 0   Hardly the sternest test England shall face, but a job well done.

Poland 1 - England 1    England drop their first points, in Group I, thanks to a 92nd minute equaliser from Szymanski. An acceptable result - no real damage done, and England still control their own qualification destiny.

USA beats Honduras 4-1. 18-year old saves the day apparently from what I read.  Thank goodness he decided to play for the US instead of Mexico.

When a win over Honduras is a good win, you know the bar is low

Just turned on the Manchester United game in the second half. Looks like Ronaldo has scored in his first game. However Newcastle just tied it up.

Having held their own, for the first four games in Ligue 1, Clermont were finally defeated today - although it was to PSG... (4 - 0)

Because of my liking for bizarre and tasteless sports shirts, I tend to keep an eye-out for sc Heerenveen - any team who can play in a shirt consisting of lilac and white stripes, covered in red water lilies (that isn't a mistake...), is worth a look. They must have some fortitude, given that it leaves them wide-open to being called a 'bunch of lillies'...

Also in the Eredivisie, an honourable mention must go the exceedingly liberal Fortuna Sittard. I describe the club, as such, because they allow the Sittard Ultras to display a banner, right behind the goals (so it can be seen in all TV coverage), at every game - week-in, week-out. It reads 'F*** You - We Are Sittard'... I wonder how long such a banner would last at any English ground, or Nationals Park, for that matter... :hysterical:
