PSG, Man City?  But there's the issue of his buyout clause - if he can't get out of that, it's a transfer fee even those clubs probably can't afford.  If he can, he's a free agent and he can literally go anywhere he wants, but you're still looking at those two at the top of the list because of the wages.

Boca Juniors.

If he wants to go home and evade taxes instead of doing so in Spain, sure.  It's unclear how much he desires that.  Supposedly he wants to win the Champions League.  But that seems silly considering that he's already done that three times (and scored twice in the finals).  I find the whole thing off-putting - if FCB, PSG, and Man City were all to end up on a boat that mysteriously sank 800 miles from land, the soccer world might be better off.

Sounds like legal battles are brewing. I am not a lawyer but based on limited reading his free agent clause expired in June each year. But since the club was still playing its 2019-20 season in August I would think a court would think it reasonable to extend it. IMHO.

Looks like Messi is stuck playing for Barça against his will. Sort of like he is for Argentina.

I think the days when a club could easily drop from league 2 to national league down through semipro seem to be over. It seems like league 2 teams take on debt trying for promotion or league 1 teams take on debt trying to avoid relegation and then the finances just crumble when things go wrong

Confirmed: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/10/08/ben-olsen-fired/

The last active link to United's great days...unfortunately, nostalgia doesn't win MLS Cups.

Interesting to see Everton and Aston Villa atop the Premiere League table.

UPDATING: Southend United settles tax debt; winding-up petition dismissed - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54718151

(They're still bringing up the rear in League Two - one step away from relegation out of the Football League - but it's good to be alive)

I don’t see a new thread so Boxing Day seems like as good a time as any to start one. Even if a few days early.

Bet on a Leicester/MU draw. Just need to have them hang on a few more minutes.

Not a good start. Just abysmal defense.

Somebody probably should have started a 2020-21 thread when the Euro leagues started, but MLS was still going.

Edit - actually, it was a pretty clean split after the last Champs League post.
