What is with the Pirates owner Bob Nutting? Has he ever had a winning season. It's like he doesn't care to win at all.

Small market mentality. It's not personal, it's business.

It's about the dollars. Pittsburgh is a great town and that's a fantastic ballpark, but it's not a big market.

I'm pretty sure if Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle bought the team they would be competitive. The Rays owner is doing it now.

One thing living in the DMV I'm glad the Lerners/Leonis/Bischotti are willing to spend money compared to some owners.

3 straight wild card teams from 2013-2015 and a winning record in 2018. 2015 was a 98 win team.  But yes, they build then break up. They hurt themselves big time in the Archer trade.

And I'm pretty sure that the season is over for most teams before opening day.

Make no doubt about if from #Pirates perspective key to trade is RHP Eddy Yean…he has big upside…but is yrs away…Crowe has talent but also has had back issues & some former teammates have said he’s an excuse maker.  The #Nationals will need to work on Bell throwing mechanics.

Yea ... .about Bell's throwing mechanics . . .

Scout’s take on RHP Wil Crowe, whom Pirates got in deal for Josh Bell: “5th starter at best. Best pitches are slider/change. He pitched scared this year, afraid to use fastball.  Fastball has some life but don’t trust it.”

Maybe Ryan Zimmerman can teach Bell how to improvise with his throwing mechanics. 😃😁

Bell will certainly improve with Turner and Soto on base in front of him and Castro hitting behind him. I see a big year ahead for Bell.

How about Rizzo working on Christmas Eve!!! Awesome! Extend Rizzo if we haven’t already. I haven’t been paying much attention so set me straight if he’s been extended. Still celebrating our World Series victory just now returning to earth. 🍻🏆🍾🍾🍾💪🏻😎👍🏻

Merry Christmas Nats Town!!!

Love this trade. Crowe and Yean may come back to haunt us in four or five years, but for now this is a really good trade. We can't afford to waste any time we have with Juan Soto and before Scherzer, Corbin, and Strasburg are a year older.

Reminds me of the Eaton trade. Win now trade. Hope it turns out as well.

1 interesting way things could play out...

Sign Realmuto.  Gomes still catches a decent amount with Realmuto playing 1B lots of those days and Bell at DH (assuming there is a DH).  That should keep Realmuto a little more fresh, improves our D, and obviously our lineup lengthens.  Face can still get 1B starts against lefties.

Like this trade less and less the more I think about it. Bell is a guy who has accomplished nothing outside of one amazing month. Not that I think much of Crowe.

If there is the universal DH this year then this team could have a seriously deadly lineup. What I love about this move, other than giving up next to nothing for Bell, is that he's dirt cheap. I still want another bat in this lineup. Whether it's a Realmuto, Brantley or Schwarber type. Add Zimmerman as a DH and this could be a great lineup. Come on Rizzo. Give me one more bat please.

If you're looking at it as THE move of the off-season then yes there's a lot riding on Bell performing outside of his career norm so far. If this is coupled with let's say a Realmuto or DJL or Brantley type move also, it looks so much better.

The 2020 season depressed me, and it was no fault of the Nationals or WNFF.

This deal has my hyped up for Nationals 2021

Compare Bell to the guy he’s replacing. What’s his name? This is an improvement. People have to stop this notion that every trade has to reap a HOF’r or Rizzo screwed up. We don’t have anything to trade so don’t expect much in return.

I'm curious to see how Davey puts the lineup together with two lefty power hitters to work with. Soto in the 2 hole? Bell in cleanup?
