And Holtby goes to my Western team.  A pretty decent FA day so far  :D

Maybe I'm too used to used to baseball contracts, but a 4.3 million AAV doesn't seem like that much

I think it’s in the mid range. He has not been good the past few years (other than the 2018 postseason).

I was expecting more AAV or more than two years for a guy who recently won a Cup, but probably good enough all around under the circumstances.

He turned down a better offer from Edmonton

His save percentages the last three years were .907/.911/.897.  He lost his starting job in 2018 and again in 2020.  He is on a major decline.  These teams are fools.  So be it.

They also signed a defenseman from the Penguins.  Meh.

The defense, from purely a talent level, will be better than this past year. Carlson-Dillon, Orlov-Schultz, Siegs/Fehervary-TVR is a deep top 6.

I will say this is a pretty damning indictment of our defensive prospects, notably former 1st-round pick Lucas Johansen, who I guess sucks? Alexeyev is young enough where I see him eventually becoming an Orlov replacement.

Nice!

I still haven't washed my blue and white Bondra eagle jersey after wearing it all through the 2018 Cup run - it probably smells like an Irish bog mummy by now.

My son picked up one of the reverse retro jerseys shown above. Easily the best caps jersey I’ve ever seen.

Looks like it’s already sold out online, don’t know that they expected this level of response

He went to the team store at the ice-plex the morning it went on sale. He got there about 90 minutes before open, the line started forming around 30 minutes later.  Dick's and other licensed retailers are supposed to be able to start selling them soon.

Glad others like them, but I never liked that logo very much.  And I don't like "Capitals" on the stripe underneath, as it was on the Caps' jerseys for period in the blue and copper era.  So glad they changed back to some version of red, white, and blue and the current primary logo.

Team store still has plenty of nameless jerseys.

The team will stop billing STHs for renewals next month.  Which tells me that there is absolutely unequivocally zero nada zilch chance of fans being attendance when and if the season ever starts.

nhl expects to start 1/13, 56 game season. i expected fans in the stands by now. pretty mind-blowing we're back to april levels of numbers, etc. sports are freaked for a while.

I loved the idea that was briefly floated around about starting the season with a Lake Louise outdoor game.

New season = new thread. Split off from last season's thread at the coaching change.

Lundqvist won't play this year because of a heart condition.
