Levy was great but Thorne is perfect for hockey.  Can we replace Pierre McGuire with Thorne?

Please don't send McDonough back to MNF or else I'll have to find something new to do instead of watching the first five minutes of that snorefest.

McDonough's kinda boring, but if the alternative is Tessitore...

Watching a replay of this game now. The most hideous hockey uniforms I have ever seen.

That's karma for his hit on Backstrom last year.

Krueger fired by Sabres. Assistant coach Don Granato has been named interim, but Bruce Boudreau has been campaigning for the job.

Tony and Don Granato are to Cammi what folks used to say Reggie was to Cheryl Miller (unfair to Reggie as a player, who was a HoF in his own right).

(1) Sabres continue to lose, although they did not have a practice before last game (Thursday) with the Bruins because Bruins had Covid scare. (2) More than a scare: Bruins and Sabres game cancelled.

If good teams make good luck, then bad-team Sabres make bad luck.

Tim Peel barred from refereeing for the rest of the season (he was to retire this year anyway) for something caught on a hot mic: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/03/24/nhl-referee-tim-peel-makeup/

I think if he had said he wanted to call an early penalty alone that he would have kept his job. Naming Nashville showed he is biased for whatever reason. We know that happens but you can’t say it out loud.

He reportedly was retiring next month, so it made it extremely easy for them to look like they were putting down the hammer

Caps fans know from referees who don’t exactly seem to display hallmarks or unbiased consistency

Posted that also in the Deaths section.  He was a real POS. But RIP anyway.

In the last Devils game, a Devils player leaped over a Cap who had slid across the Caps goal-mouth. Today one of the Capitals jumped over a Ranger as a Capitals' player took a shot. Maybe a decoy or, like the Devil, a way to avoid skating into the body of a player down on the ice.

Given the speed of the game, given how hard they shoot, given the reactions (for instance, Wilson hitting a puck out of the air for a goal), given that these guys are not figure skaters with figure skates, the overall skill is jaw-dropping.

If he is claimed by another club by noon tomorrow, he's gone and the acquiring team picks up the balance of his salary.

If not, he stays with the Phliars, goes to the taxi squad, or goes the AHL...

Word is he's not been playing that great and has a similar style to another player who is...

His salary cap hit may keep him from being claimed...

I’ve been reading the Flyers blogs and no one seems to know. The coach said he expects him to clear waivers. He has played better this year than last. But his contract is fairly large. And three years I believe. The Flyers defense has been a total mess this year. They also might be planning a trade for someone and using this to clear cap space. Or losing a contract to clear one up to sign a college guy. Cam York maybe.

Edit. Based on some further reading they clear some cap space if he clears waivers.

After Marchand's just missing the Gordie Howe Hat Trick, I hit the wiki to find out the career all time and active leaders.

Make your guesses below.

For the active leaders, both have Bruin connections.

Although he played a record 2,421 professional hockey games, Gordie Howe himself only achieved two "Gordie Howe hat tricks" in his NHL career.

The all-time leaders in Gordie Howe hat tricks are Rick Tocchet with 18 and Brendan Shanahan (who would later become the NHL's chief disciplinarian) with 17. Next is Brian Sutter with 16, then Tiger Williams and Wilf Paiement with 15 each. The active leaders are Capitals defenseman Zdeno Chara and Leafs forward Joe Thornton with five.
