On Friday, MLB made another attempt to find an acceptable solution, submitting a proposal to the MLBPA for a 154-game season without prorating player pay, per Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports (via Twitter). The proposal also includes delaying the season by a month and expanding playoffs. Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds that the universal designated hitter is also included in this offer.

Seems ridiculous on the part of the union. It's like they're rejecting it just so they're not viewed as rolling over for the owners. The proposal seems fair and reasonable.

What, then, is the players’ issue with this plan? For one thing, they’re concerned it still gives commissioner Rob Manfred unilateral authority to cancel games along the way. (And if games are canceled, they say, the players won’t get full pay.)
For another thing, players are saying it’s too late to make such a drastic change. Many have already begun reporting early to camps in Florida and Arizona. Many pitchers are already building their arms up with the intention of being ready for an April 1 opener. Any delays would force them to shut down or slow down that process, and as we saw last year that could lead to more injuries.
The players also appear to be opposed to the expanded postseason, believing that will encourage teams not to spend money in an attempt to improve. Why try to win 90 games when 85 might be enough to reach the playoffs?

The stuff about the playoffs causing teams to spend less is laughable. More teams will be in the race.

Recalling the whole opener that leveraged Fredericksburg until the bluff was called, I’m fairly confident DC won’t stand on an island but will go with the room temperature check

Just heard that Nats will allow 5,000 fans Opening day. Priority is to longer tenured season ticket holders.

What little I saw of last season I missed seeing the brothers behind home plate. They didn't even make cardboard cutouts of them. I forget what cardboard cutouts they put in their seats.
