Post retirement announcement press conference.  He ended up needing a partial knee replacement last year.  The surgery was delayed until December due to COVID restrictions.  Can walk comfortably but cannot run.  No plans to take on any current role in baseball while his kids are still in the house, other than coaching little league for his middle son.

It's just so odd to listen to him, Werth, Zimmerman, and others in their mid-to-late 30s come off as old men when in normal life these guys are just really getting going.

Yeah, it is odd. I remember seeing a bald John Smoltz in his 30s who looked like he was in his 50's.  I guess it's just because we see these guys age in front of us.

Think about it, the first player the Nationals ever drafted is 36 now.

Poor guy. Pretty young to be going thru that but he'll find out that partial knee replacements are a waste of time. In due time he'll be getting the total knee replacement. And at his age he'll be getting multiples.

team 2 is supposed to be LAD.  Dodgers are talking 1 - 2 years at >$36MM, so the higher AAV.  Mets are talking about 3-4 years, at Cole / Strasburg AAV ($35-  36MM).  You wonder how much extra the Dodgers have to go for Bauer to go with them.  For LAD, it makes sense to go short and high because it doesn't tie up salary when Walker and Bellinger are due for big money.

Cards trade Fowler to the Angels. Cards will also be paying 12 million of Fowler's 14 million dollar salary this year.

The Cards are paying more for Fowler to NOT play for them then they are for Arenado to play for them.

You also wonder whether the fact that he and Cole went to UCLA together, hated one another, and this gives Bauer a chance to "win" LA might matter.  In NY, he'd still be second fiddle to Cole, even at that AAV (due to contract length).   That sounds horribly petty, but all indications are that Bauer is horribly petty.

He would be like third fiddle to deGrom.

He said months ago that he wanted a bigger short term deal. Sounds dumb to me but based on what he said he should take the Dodgers deal.

Not like he's going to usurp Kershaw, either.  But agree on the fact the Dodgers seem to be offering what he actually wanted.

Looked up his agent as I had never heard of her. As best I can tell she only represents Bauer and Puig.
