Gonna be honest, I would have rathered the Nats sign Pederson at 7 million rather than Schwarber at 10.

Doesn’t make sense, does it?

I agree. Of all the signings and trades I am questioning the Schwarber one the most.

Unless Rizzo tried to get Peterson and he turned them down.

Statcast loves Schwarber, hits the ball hard, elevates it and draws walks , 13% walk rate for his career.

I know you hate fangraphs, but they seem very similar offensively in terms of average, obp, ISO, wOBA, etc... and neither is a plus defender.

I rather Puig over both. He’s got good splits. Probably could have gotten him for 2years/$10

Apparently Pederson rejected $10 million from the White Sox earlier this offseason, and they told him to **** freak off and signed Eaton instead. The market for Pederson obviously didn't develop the way he hoped.

I also consider Pederson a better player than either Eaton or Schwarber, so not sure what is happening here.

I’m guessing Davey wanted Schwarber based on past experiences

Let's give credit to Schwarber's agent for knowing how to pump up his market and not get greedy.  Now let's sign Bauer for 1 year, $5MM.

Please keep spending on not pitchers
They signed Archie Bradley and traded for that guy from TB to help the pen. Their starting pitching last year was staistically good.  For instance 8th in quality starts.

The bullpen ERA was 7.06.

Yes. The Phillies are better. The whole division is better.

Dustin Pedroia retires.  He ranks #20 among 2B all time according to JAWS and might have a shot at the HoF.  Willie Randolph, Lou Whitaker and Bobby Grich are the only ones ranking higher who didn't get in (among eligibles).

loved me the Laser Show.  I don't think he ever shortened his swing with 2 strikes.  I can't remember very many little flares to right. He certainly used the Wall to his advantage, but it was liners mostly, not lazy flies.  I would have loved to see things like statcast and defensive metrics have been more advanced in his career because both the laser show offense and his range.

Little aside though is his rivalry with Ian Kinsler.  They both started at Arizona State together playing shortstop, but Pedroia won out so Kinsler transfered.

In case anyone needs a reminder that Manny Machado is a freaking dickhead.

The Angels are investigating Calloway for leud/unwanted advances.

They fire him, they're front runners for Bauer

That’s good. Would like to see Trout in the playoffs.

Post retirement announcement press conference.  He ended up needing a partial knee replacement last year.  The surgery was delayed until December due to COVID restrictions.  Can walk comfortably but cannot run.  No plans to take on any current role in baseball while his kids are still in the house, other than coaching little league for his middle son.

It's just so odd to listen to him, Werth, Zimmerman, and others in their mid-to-late 30s come off as old men when in normal life these guys are just really getting going.
